QUOTE(horns @ Apr 27 2017, 11:54 PM) you should get the right type of m.2 ssd first before you can fix this. your laptop needs m.2 pcie, not m.2 sata. QUOTE(k3lvinNdad @ Apr 28 2017, 08:53 AM) Y520 is using M.2 PCIE x4 but your SSD according to your picture is M.2 Sata Therefore the ssd will not work http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Le...spec-win505.pdfhttps://www.pendrive.com.my/m2ssd Correct me if I am wrong Got it, so this is a case of incompatible SSD then? Any recommendation for PCIe M.2 SSD? After some light searching, I found that Intel 600p is something that would fit right? How should one differentiate a SATA from a PCIe SSD based on the form factor? Is is safe to assume that PCIe SSD is the same as NVMe?

Is is safe to assume that PCIe SSD is the same as NVMe? yeah i'm afraid so. yes, intel 600p is ok; it's similar to sata speed (maybe you can just use this instead); samsung 960 evo/pro is better but pricey; the rest you have to look them up. since they are using the same form factor, check the product information on the package will tell you whether it's a sata or pcie. (or better yet do a research online for what you wanna get first, before purchase) no, for pcie ssd, there are 2 variants (ahci and nvme). certain older pcie ssds might have ahci variant, instead of nvme. it's better don't assume. not all shop keepers are familiar with details.
