In a few months time, most of the bike will be returned with missing parts. Mainly sold for parts, and some kena curik for their own use. Anything from the seats to the backwheel, will be curiked.

I've used these bikes. The bikes are expensive ones. Not the cheap imported one. But no gear though.

If can survive few months without needed constant repair/replacement, then good. Means cyclist in Penang is not as fakap as Penang drivers. rclxms.gif

but cycling on Malaysian road needs to have at least 1 outrider escort to open the way, a few car escorts following at the back with 1 ambulance following as well on standby

Although the concept is not local, I'm glad the English is kept local. Full of errors to maintain the Malaysian feel.

Are there locals who use these things? Motorcycles are affordable and much more convenient than bicycles.

Are there tourists who use these? Put a QR code for scanning and a mobile app for download, then the number of users is probably close to zero. A better way is to tap an NFC card, whether credit or debit, then take the bicycle. Or there will be a need to put staff at every station, escalating the cost to a level that makes the system infeasible.

These are observations made in Chiang Mai.
