Hi,
Just want to ask around in here about how to clean old coins - methods? I got a casket full of old coins dating to late 19th century to mid-20th century. However, some of the coins have a layer of rust color coating which I do not know how to clean it.
Do let me know.

Getting Started

You could try vinegar. Use an old rag dipped in vinegar and scrub a bit. You could also soak the coins but don't soak for too long or else it'll eat away at the metal.

Don't use anything corrosive or abrasive to clean the surface of coins... brasso and vinegar will eat into the metals and damage the details. Its extremely damaging and will lower the value of your coins.
