Emotion Engine available in the older PS3 are for backward compatibility purpose for PS2 games. As the software emulation for running PS2 games inside the PS3 are becoming stable , it inevitable that the EE chip be removed.

Prior to PS3...all games meant for PS1, PS2, Gamecube, Wii, Xbox and Xbox 360 are region locked. It means certain games bought out of specific region ( eg, US or Japan ) are not playable on said consoles. Now for PS3 u can buy any games from any part of the world and it would be playable on any PS3. Blu-Ray movies are region-locked though.

Certain games are coded in specific tv signals. In the case of UK, the games are coded in PAL format. Games bought with NTSC coded signal ( eg. US, Japan or Asian ) would exhibit anomalies if it were to run on UK console.

There's no UK version. Japs, HK & Sg version are basically the same. Try to avoid the Japanese version. Just get the Singapore or HK version.
