Where did you get that routing performance comparison figure, esp for those Asus? RB750Gr3 is almost 2x the routing performance of Ubuiquiti ERX on most scenario, but you won't notice this as you will mostly have single direction data transfer. Both mikrotik & edgerouter had their own quirks & bugs, but I no longer recommend edgerouter judging from the lack of urgency attitude from ubiquiti in fixing their firmware bugs (erl-3 few years back & now er-x). Mikrotik had issues with IKEv2 VPN & ER-X had broken L2TP/IPSec when IPSec hw offload enabled.

Got it from smallnetbuilder's review of the RB750Gr3. Specifically the part where they compared routing speeds with hw offload off.
https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/lanw...howall=&start=1

As for the ERX, I'm just presuming they're comparable since the RB750Gr3 has the same SoC.

Well, I don't put much weight on SNB figures in terms of practicality & real use case (at least those used by me & acquaintance). The CTF disabled figures is kinda irrelevant. Without hardware offload, the soc/cpu inside a router will have to run at high speed. It will really depends on the raw cpu power & processing latency. Some soc does have DPI hw offload & them leaving it enabled for 1 & disabled for another router in their CTF chart just show their unfamiliarity to those smb routers.

My point is, do not blindly follow those figures if it doesn't match your use case. If the router is significant under performed in your use case, it doesn't mean that it is bad but rather you have chosen the wrong router for your use case. There are other factors but I don't want to make a lengthy rant on this.

After looking at the threads, I got a lot of choices now. Either I get
1. TPLINK C3150v2 - 256MB ram, dual core 1.4GHz
2. Asus AC68U - 256MB ram, dual core 1GHz
3. Asus AC87U Second Hand - 256MB ram, dual core 1GHz
4. Mikrotik router + Archer C1200 as access point - 256MB ram, dual core 800MHz

All around the same price except choice 4 where I get mikrotik router.
Which one should I get?

Most importantly I would like stability despite of what I throw at it

Not sure about the stability of C3150v2. Anyone have run it for at least a month and seen any restarts or any restarts required for good performance?
*
I have all routers above so maybe I can give you some insights.

C3150 have some seriously good wireless ability. Stability is good, I own one and a few people at the TP-Link thread have good experience with it.
RT-AC68U is a bit old at this point but the features it offers are amazing. AsusWRT is still the best in the industry in terms of features.
Avoid AC87U, the 5Ghz wireless is known for being problematic due to the Quantenna chipset.
Mikrotik is the hardcore choice. Fully fledged networking features but not easy to tame. If that's your thing, you can consider that.

It's all about preference. I would go for the C3150 just for the sake of wireless performance. If it's a home router, you probably do not need those routing features in a Mikrotik router anyway. Wireless performance is much more important.

The C3150 is 3 times the price of AC1200G+ sweat.gif

It depends on your budget.

Not problem with the budget. Based on your experience with both devices, which one is better? Thanks

I would recommend the C3150 v2. I am using that and it is very stable. Get it here from a reliable seller: http://www.lazada.com.my/tp-link-archer-c3...53bfnEzAjv&mp=1
