look at this

it is interesting to see how much will AMD price each of the processor, i dont see any reason to get these processor if it is at least 50% pricier than intel's core 2 duo, unless it did really perform as what they claim now. smile.gif

the 4x4 platform, where u need to buy the processor in pairs, it is available now but it is very expensive. simply put, combine 2 processor on one mobo. if u got two quad core, u get 8 core total.

It's gonna cost a bomb. Cheapest is USD599=RM2156.40 (@RM3.6 to USD 1)

Also...only 1 PCI slot??? Other than an external sound card, there's nothing else i can fit in. But then again, no one in their right mind would want to use such an expensive system for HTPC, but it does limit the options.

btw quad fx system seem slower than kentfield@ core 2 quad system..

hmmm...seems like Quad FX still lose out to Intel quad core...although it's by a small margin.

It looks like this QuadFX is a transitional solution until AMD can get their 65nm process up and cooking (the silicons!).

For AMD to win this round, they must cut their price agressively...i think at least 20% below Intel's similar performace rival.

From the way i look at it, with 2 CPUs, there's not very much of margin for AMD to cut.

Me think this round this goes to Intel, but at least AMD will be taken as serious contender and not a "has been".

Bravo to AMD for putting up a good fight despite with an inferior (90nm) manufacturing process.

Just wait and see the reviews,no need to be too eager to know the new proc performance. After seeing the review if really can compete with C2D,then it will be good news are the price is also cheaper.

I doubt those new AMD proc can kill Conroe. In term of performance Intel is still leading. Maybe AMD cut their price up to 30% or more maybe they can gain market share.

AMD cut price, Intel also cut price, but AMD when gonna realease thier new PROC? intel drop they price at april 22, that time ppl d buy up they new comp, feed with E4300, no much ppl in the market is playing "i want change new proc and test test wor"

and the how about OC performance, the lowest speed C2D can ezly get the highest series C2D clock speed

Search Wikipedia ler...got explanation there.

Anyway, i think AMD is killing themselves with too many platforms. They'll have a marketing nightmare with too many transitional platforms.

If i'm not wrong:
AM2+/AM2 processors can interchange with AM2+/AM2 mobos.

AM3 proc can work in AM2 mobo, but AM2 proc cannot work in AM3 mobo.

IMO, they should just drop AM2+ as it doesn't offers much except the new Hypertransport 3.0 Unless got significant performance jump, then it's just another marketing nightmare.

AM2+ --> adding some feature (dunno what)
AM3 --> able proc to use DDR3

both proc for AM2+ & AM3 can be use on AM2 socket, but proc for AM2 socket can't be use on AM3 doh.gif meaning AM2, AM2+ & AM3 have the same socket layout, just different features available, like Intel gonna make new chipset supporting DDR3 & higher FSB, but same socket 775

stupid AMD, making the same socket, but different features & socket name only doh.gif they really need to change the architecture la whistling.gif

Yup nod.gif
Agreed wif E-J@1. Performance wise AMD 4x4 might wins, but when cum 2 power consumption then d story might different sweat.gif

No... the one thread starter pointed at was newer processor based on K8L technology, not the current K8.

quad fx shown was old... it's not a surprise because it's not really a new processor, it's still based on the old K8 technology.

ya, i know already, this board already been tested last year, i thought TS posting this new topic for a new proc or something, tengok2 the useless 4x4 doh.gif

but the board is really eye catching drool.gif the socket like LGA775 for sure, last time i read about this 4x4 thingy, they flaming AMD for making a useless setup, expensive + high power consumption + still losing to Intel Quad Core doh.gif

i wonder why the hell AMD want to produce this since Intel is cheaper & still wins doh.gif maybe just to show off kot laugh.gif i thought AMD could learn something from Intel, which Intel did try to make a 2 proc on one board (Pentium 4), but fail cause too, too, too costly & the performance is not that great from their expectation, that's when the dual core comes into Intel's mind nod.gif
