Hi,

I have been using my Hotlink # for few years traveling overseas.
There's no issue at all for Roaming. I will be able to get local lines, make and receive calls.

However, recently for the past 3wks I think, when I travel to Singapore, I no longer able to receive any local lines, make and receive calls.
You know what is the issue?

I cant transact any Bank transaction due to not able to receive any TAC SMS ranting.gif rclxub.gif

Let me know what info you required to check this out.

Maybe you're using a 2g SIM card. My SIM card also having same problem. All telcos have ended all 2g service in Singapore from 1 April 2017 onwards

I'm having the same problem as well. No service in Singapore. No, it's not the issue with 2G. My sim card is 4G.

Hi,

We suggest you to restart your phone and manually search the network. PM us if experience persists.

Thank you,

WEF 1 April 2017, Singapore started the shutting down of 2G network and the deadline given to all the telcos for completion was 18 April 2017.

Make sure the mobile network for your Hotlink card is not set to 2G, but at least 3G and above.

Restarted many times, even manual search also cannot search. It will prompt "Couldn't search for mobile networks"
And it's been setup as 3G network preferred.

Switch to other handphone also the same.

Are you using Dual Sim Card HP?
One with Hotlink, another one with Singtel?

found out this, using dual sim card phone. cant have both singtel and hotlink card activate simultaneously in one phone. if u need to use hotlink card, disactivate the singtel card n vice versa. gosh, i dont know whose fault is this, who to blame. cant be the phone caused previously working both activate simultaneously. another way, use yr old smartphone for hotlink card.

Please see my earlier post. You may have a 4G SIM card, but the mobile network setting on the phone cannot be put to 2G while you're in Singapore due to the recent shut-down.

Singapore has no 2G network anymore, same for other countries like Australia and IIRC, Taiwan sometime in July.

What phone are you using?

I bought a Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 recently, and can confirm that I can activate both SIM cards simultaneously after a firmware update. One card is on LTE/3G/2G (auto connect), while the other one is on 3G/2G (auto connect) - SIM 1 is using 4G while SIM 2 using 3G.

You won't be able to get a connection if you set mobile network to 2G only.

Hi Cocopeat,

Yeah...I just realized bout this too... shocking.gif

Hi RDoe,

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2
Both SIM being set as "Prefer 3G Network"
Which location are you in? If in Woodlands area (Causeway Point), both sim cards still workable, but further than that, Hotlink Sim Card will be down. Left Singtel 3G in another sim card.

So currently, if I need to use the Hotlink Sim Card, I need to turn off the Singtel Sim Card...then once refresh, the Hotlink Sim Card is workable...

I'm further away from the causeway, a couple of days before the deadline already my old dual SIM phone became like single SIM. shakehead.gif

I think XR Note4 lets you use 3G on both slots, no sure... but with the older phones you'll have to choose which one you want to turn off.

If you need to visit Singapore frequently and plan to buy a new phone, you'll have to be careful what phone you choose. I think not all new phones can support the use of 3G on both slots, or 4G on one and 3G on the other.

It sounds not the problem with the phone. My suspect is that maxis has partnership with Singtel for roaming, so when u are on roaming to Singtel, it appears like as home network or something. Just my guess.

Yes, Maxis' roaming partner is Singtel but regardless, any Singapore network you put to 2G will not get a connection anymore...

yes, 2G network is already closed in lion city.

unless one is using the super super old device, else i assume most ppl are using the newer smartphone nowadays, i dun think the issue one encounter for this is due to 2g network.

no one will manually select 2g network also. nowadays no new smartphone u can set ur phone to 2G mode only. only option is to turn on and off 4g only.

Referring to dual-SIM phones, not all can support 3GDS or 4G/3G. So when you set one SIM slot to 4G or 3G, the other slot will automatically go to 2G.

2G have nothing to do with super super old phone lah. 2G have stronger signal and wider coverage than 3G. Take a look telco coverage map of Sarawak. People over there also human being too. Better 2G than No Service bro
And u must be not using GPS tracker.

I am talking about the case mentioned above the possible cause phone is manually set to 2g and due to the shutdown of 2g network in lion city. Nothing to do with 2g devices or who are still using 2g.

Obviously the forumer is not using 2g only device thus I said his no coverage in lion city cannot be due to 2g network only selected in his phone becos newer phone does not come with the function to select 2g only.
