My salary is too low to qualify for premier credit cards. Luckily, cashback credit cards are either gold, platinum or signature credit cards.

Is it possible to use your method to complain about the following issues?

1) Minimum spending amount
- Some restaurants allows credit card usage, if the spending amount is above RM 50, for example.

2) Non-acceptance of American Express Credit Cards
- Since Bank Negara stipulates that the interchange fee is same for all types of credit cards, the fee that needs to be paid by merchant in accepting American Express Credit Cards should be same as the fees for Visa and MasterCard credit cards. Thus, they shoud have no issue in accepting American Express Credit Cards.

Besides sending the complain e-mail to Bank Negara and the merchant, can we send the same e-mail to the acquirer bank (which supplies the credit card terminal to merchant)?

It is best that those who prefer to use Maybank 2 Card Amex in Starbucks lodge a complaint directly to Starbucks Malaysia HQ.

Although they start to use Ambank credit card terminals, Ambank credit card terminals can still accept American Express credit cards, provided that the proper tagging is done between the Ambank credit card terminals and American Express system maintained by Maybank.

I can understand that smaller strugglng retailers refuse to accept American Express credit cards, but I do not suppose that a large company like Starbucks cannot absorb the American Express credit card interchange fee, which should be same as those of Visa and MasterCard credit cards.

The hope is to reinstate the usage of American Express credit cards in Starbucks may be slim, but you will never know if you do not try.

I can understand that public bank terminals in 99 Speedmart do not accept Amex. However, it is not entirely correct to say that all of the Public Bank terminals used by other merchants do not accept Amex.

At least for Sushi Zanmai in Sunway Velocity Mall, Cheras, the Public Bank credit card terminal there can accept Amex.

My experience with Caring Pharmacy is almost same as you.

At one outlet of Caring Pharmacy, it used to have Public Bank credit card terminal that could accept Amex.

Early this year, the outlet changed to Ambank credit card terminal. Thankfully, the terminal still accepts Amex.

No matter that it is a RHB, Public Bank or Ambank credit card terminal, the terminal can accept Amex, provided that the proper tagging / linkage is done between the terminal and Amex system maintained by Maybank.

The thing is that the merchant has to pay some fee to Maybank for such linkage. Some merchants refuse to pay the fee, thus some credit card terminals cannot accept Amex.
