Good luck. Yes, CHess as one of the operators hsould have a good training program and knowing your background you should be able to get a grasp on all the terminalogy and the system real fast.

As for salary, as I said before, it's a personal thing. I just received an offer for RM70K (and my wife still think that it's not so good .. sheesh) but a 10-12K offer for you may be satisfactory. What I always say is that think about the future potential and go from there.

Subsurface Technical line (I'm a Geological Modeler by the way) and right now the market is extremely hot for Subsurface Technical Professionals (Drilling Engineer, Reservoir Engineer, Geologist, Geophysicist, Petrophysicist) with so many companies now involved in E&P in Malaysia (with the new small field RSC contract given out by Petronas).

A lot of these companies are outsourcing or tendering out their manpower requirements and the manpower companies are scrambling to find people to go into these tenders. So all sorts of crazy salary are being offered.

The 70K is about 40% higher than what I am getting right now, but it's a contract position with a 2+1 contract terms and that's just it, 70K an nothing else. Where I am working now, the company pays for me to go back to Malaysia once a year, there's the annual increments, promotions, and annual bonuses etc. The kids education are paid for (anywhere in the world) so you see why my wife is reluctant? Can't blame her because she does makes a lot of sense.
