Yo peeps,

As you can see, a new section called LYN Charity Foundation has been set up. Basically, se7en and I would like to kick start the ball; to form a group of members within the LYN community that is interested to perform charitable acts.

We will plan out and materialize charity movements that is beyond our power. However the first step for this cause is to garner support from all of you.

If you're interested to join this charity movement with us (remember this is non-profit so don't PM me on how much you'll get paid), please PM me with your details like name, LYN handle, HP number and email so we would be able to set up a committee. I will be arranging a short meeting session to explain further on our cause once we get sufficient people contributing.

For inquiries, post it here and I'll reply.

Remember, there are people that needs us out there. It's time to give some of yourself back.

Note (1) : We're not looking for monetary contributions, what we need is a contribution of time and commitment to help with charitable events.

Note (2) : Sorry if I couldn't reply your PMs. I will be calling you guys out with the names above very soon. Thanks for your support.

Note (3) : I got a feeling my PM box is gonna burst soon.

Note (4) : The response I got is OVERWHELMING! Since it's like this, I will be arranging a public gathering for all of us that wants to contribute. We will meet up and discuss about the cause together while setting different committees for different purposes. I'll keep you guys informed.

Initially it would be in and around KL. Activities currently range from normal visits to spend time, help around, have meals etc with them. We're also planning on other things like cinema outings, in-town-trips etc based on requests from the selected organizations.

Since we're an IT community and all, we were also thinking along the lines of sponsoring a computer for the organizations, and maybe giving free one day trainings etc.

Basically its still early days, so we can't really say much. Once we've got enough of interest and more input, we'll decide on the next steps.

Yes, anybody may join. It will be an event-by-event basis, you can join in any event if you are free at the particular time. No obligations to be involved in every event. A few members will be selected for to be in committee for each event, the rest just need to turn up.

Out of KL? Well, if everything goes well, we'll want to run this at different places, and since we have members all over, you're welcome to gather a group members and plan an event for your own location.

Yes, we do understand there will be a need for monetary contributions, but at the moment we will be wiring funds from the ads you see on the site to kick-start this project. If everything goes well, we will look into transparent ways where you may be able to donate to the cause - but that is much later.

Interesting project.

I'm interested but I'm studying in Melaka at the moment so I can't be sure that I can make it to activities/outings.

So is it okay? If it is, count me in.

i m interested to help out...but as i m new to the working force now..(fresh grad just found a job) ...i m not sure that will i be free to join "every" of the event..altho i wish i can join most of them .... i will try my best to support la

and also i thing i must clarify is....i do not have the monetary power(fresh grad with new job) to support any financial events or activities at all...at this moment......so, if this is ok with the community...i will be very delighted to help out too..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

edit: ..oh well.... the notes (1) (2) and (3) were not there when i wrote the post....

Guys, do not worry about the monetary part, as mentioned, let us worry about the funds, we just want your participation. We need volunteers who can spare maybe a few hours on a weekend to help out with the events.

Right now, this thread is to get a small group of volunteers ready to decide on which charity home/organization we plan to help first. This committee will also decide on what kind of help we can offer after discussion with the selected home/organization. They will then release details of the event, and anybody who wants to volunteer to join in on the event day may do so.

A new committee will conduct the following event, there can even be committees based on geographical location and such.

Not a bad thing really to have a unit in different states. I am from KL. Busy most of the time as a "slave" and at other times "slave" and "slave" to company, wife and kids... sigh.. I would like to join too but I can't give 100% commitment in this, like a sudden call for all member, I might not be able to make it.

Perhaps, those charitable events can pop up a few days earlier or few weeks to get the attention of those who are already commited and some who suddenly want to get involved in this.

And one thing, I hope it's purely charity, no relation with any religious activity or the like...

This is amazing! So proud of being a LYN Member!
But have you thought about pairing with another charity organization?
The first one that comes to my mind is Child's Play...... organized by Web-comic masters, Penny Arcade.

You can find more info about Child's Play at http://www.childsplaycharity.org/
and more about penny arcade at http://www.penny-arcade.com

A collaboration with other charity org is good idea. Try Volunteers of Keris Mas Amal Trading. You can contact them at 016-7946738/016-7071461. Maybe even can join TV3 in their charity works.

count me in.

although i'm not in msia currently, but i could contribute in terms of contacts as well as expertise:

i. anybody in the faculty of built environment, UTM (experts, researchers, lecturers, as well as the architectural society).
ii. PEMADAM selangor (my father is the chairman of PEMADAM selangor)
iii. some political support also can (my father's a member of the parliament - but dont count on this too much. he's not too fond of family members using his position to any advantage wink.gif )

i've also run several national level events before. so anything i could do to help interms of assistance or advise, just gimme a shout. some of my experiences:

i. programme director for 14th architectural workshop (national gathering of architectural students in msia)
ii. programme management of 3x archiforum events - international academic conference for architecture (specifically south east asia).

haha... they definitely will inform all of us earlier before the event. Currently they just started to hire volunteers, so I guess might not be that soon to have any charity yet without a proper plan. wink.gif

Since I'm not in Malaysia, I can offer to do something else I'm good at, YouTube!
Something like this --> http://youtube.com/LYTCF

I can make videos if given the photos taken, upload it it on YouTube LYN channel, and later Admin can post them here biggrin.gif
Examples of what I did before:

If it's a video by itself, Admins (or whoever that is incharge of those videos) can of course upload it straight there happy.gif

Well, at least that's how I figure I could help thumbup.gif

Well...a good thought.. great mind and superb vision!!
IMHO, why don't the interested candidates list down in detail their past experience / expertise which they think would help to contribute to this project and makes Seven and other easier to seperate out the database and form the group of committess easily?

personal opinion, please don't limit yourself as to what you can contribute... i understand the fact that some of us are in different states and are tied up with other commitment. but once you decide to help, you can actually make the time and effort, cos when there's a will, there's a way.

if you can't help out in the actual event, how about helping with the organizing stage? help out with contacts n such? or maybe if the organising committee needs help drafting letters or designing flyers etc? there are many ways to contribute to the charity, not only your brute strength or time.

my personal view, it doesn't have to be law.

It really pains me that this is being left for dead.

I see members here practically giving away thousands to purchase computer parts, handphones, collectibles etc but this part of the forum lies pratically dead.

IMO, this should be treated more IMPORTANTLY as we can see the potiental of members here to do some good for society.

I'm new here.
Glad all are geared up to serve the community.
I suggest for starter, we may spend our free time to teach tuitions at some orphanage.
However, since this is a very large group, we may just pool up some $ and buy necessity groceries stuff form them! smile.gif

i am free to help too . btw this thread seems a little too quiet perhaps we can start something? i occasionally help out in some orphanage organized by other forum and come to think of it perhaps we can start donate some old comp and set like a mini comp room for them to learn . if we can get 2-3 comp thats pretty good , i got plenty of old router and network cable to go along

well we can figure out abt the broadband issue , ie donation / sponsorship
last 2 months i went to 1 orphanage in sg buloh
zomg can u imagine they have rooms for each orphan and the area is as big as 1 and 1/2 football field and they even get trips to other state.
abt the old comp , we can even organize little comp classes for them to learn during the weekend , the best thing is we r promoting LY.net too laugh.gif
if we can get everyone to donate 1 old parts we can easily cover entire PJ orphanage.

you have a nice suggestion there...nw i start thinking the same way like you...this thread is a little bit quiet...so, we also found difficulty in discussing these matters...
for old computer parts, if its like mouse or mouse pad or keyboard, then it will still be reasonable, for the cpu n monitor, i think it will be a little bit difficult...^^
bt for the overall idea, i really support it...nw, we just need to wait for more response...^^

well i am sure a lot of ppl dont really mind to donate some of their parts if they know where it is going . besides how much can a used comp fetch in the market? celeron 800 mhz is more than enough to run win98 , i got like 5 copies lying around my closet . i am thinking of using no greater than p4 comp , if software is a prob , we can use linux and teach them . At least we can start teaching them that using pirated software is a no no .

Hi there,

am a fresh grad from aust. currently i m back in kl and i'm keen on volunteering in stuff like tuition or helping out in orphanage or foster care n stuff like that.

pm me for my contact details. i know this is a charity work but i hope it can at least be slight more organised in some ways i.e. getting people from charity background to manage and coordinate the members.

hey there.

im interested too!

i've been doing a couple of charity-based works before. for those in KL area, you might wana check out the Rumah Nur Salam at Jalan Chow Kit. For more info on the place, check these out:

http://rumahnursalam.blogspot.com/

http://www.chowkids.org/

In a nutshell, they're streetkids who need people to connect with them, emotionally if can be. Also, if you guys can spare the weekends, might wanna help them some with the homeworks.

If you're intrigued of interested - just call the number there or pay them a visit directly. smile.gif

I just registered myself as a donor for MAKNA. You can view their webpage on www.makna.org.my

They have a monthly Direct Debit Donor program which deduct monthly from your savings account.

Hope more people can look into this.

Is there anyone interested in the charity work for orphanage? Siddharthan Care Center really need you! After this centre, I will have more home to have projects with them!

Thank you!
