Hi,

I'm planning to open a cyber cafe by next year or probbly this year. i need someone that have more experience and have knowledge how to do it and can give me some advised how do i start it. I do some research on the internet and ask people around, to open a cyber cafe have a huge risk and need some huge capital so start up. Its kinda scared me but i still wanna do it and open my own business.

1)The first things i wanna know is how much fund i need to start a good cyber cafe?
2)What are the risk of opening this cyber cafe
3)Idea to attract costumer to your cybercafe - i have some idea how to make my cyber cafe well known among the local in my place but i wanna hear some more from others
4)How many PC(minimum) needed so your business can maintain its business

the rest of problem will discuss out through this forum.

Are cyber cafes still popular these days?
I actually haven't been to one since many years back, so I don't know what's the latest situation of this industry.
Is it still a viable business?

yes, cyber cafe still popular this day. i seen one cyber cafe in my place almost everyday full with customer untill they have to open 3 branch separately. The things is how u attract the customer and how you manage the cyber and make it better cyber.

Cybercafes are still popular, but the important thing is LOCATION.

Things that attract cc players (according to my friends and customers, many still go to cc these days)

i) Internet speed
ii) Chair design
iii) Well-lit
iv) MECHANICAL KEYBOARD (i cannot stress this enough, i'm in this field well enough to know that cc's that don't use mechanical keyboards will slowly lose to cc's that do) - on a side note save my contact I should be able to supply your cc with mech next time
v) games available is not really too important.. just make sure have the mainstream competitive ones
vi) membership system (card, username, etc.) in KL it's popular to buy membership and get 3 hours for RM4/5 depending on which PC
vii) VIP and normal zone (VIP zone using better peripherals, nicer screen)

Other things:

1) Risk:
i) franchise cc opening up in your area, like Orange, will suck normal cc business.
ii) i dunno about gang activity in your area, here is safe
iii) staff steal your things

actually that's all i can think of, don't really need to worry much about pc component dying.. they're reliable these days

2) fund i dunno, need check with other threads in this subforum, got many cc owners here

3) 40 PC's is a good start. Still depends on how many sqft your place is.

Running 24 hours is always a great idea, because rental runs 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Average wage for franchie cc staff in Klang Valey is RM4.50~5.50 per hour. RM8/hour for cleaners. Basic 1.7k for cc assistant manager (minimum diploma or degree holder)

Thanks for your advice i will write it down into my plan.
i already to calculate the cost for opening cyber cafe with 50 Pc total all sum up to Rm250k(i'm not sure i calculate it right or not, i will put the detail here later as i didnt bring my planning book with me nw)this is just for opening the cyber.
and for the operational cost can reach up to Rm16.5k Per month.

Regarding the risk, that what i'm worried about but i will choose the location wisely, i have some locations in my mind where i wanna open it but i have to check the probability of my customer coming to my CC and do some research in the area.

I'm planning to hire 3 staff only to take care the CC with 12hour working hour and i have some friend i can trust willing to take care the CC.

Have you actually asked for quotation from the suppliers?

IMO 8k air-cond ain't enough for 50 seats. 20k furniture ain't enough for 50 sets. The chair alone could cost RM400/pc.

You've heard of cat5e? Renovation ain't gonna be 25k with that included.

No plans for insurance? What if 4am, 1 gang came & ransack all your hardwares?

Your right about the insurance, i miss it out. I have not ask any supplier yet but i alrdy ask few people with CC experience. I went to cyber in my place also and do some observation, this is where i get roughly for air cond Rm8000. As for Renovation, i take the most basic one to do the renovation. For furniture one,i can revised tht one, as what i know a set of table and chair can be up to Rm300/set.

Thin client is not suitable for gaming, especially for high graphics game. A thin client is never going to be able to draw graphics the same speed as a workstation/PC. And, the most important thing is thin client is not flexible to upgrade/customize/adding the hardware part/replacement like normal PC.

The best solution to cut the cost down for icafe is diskless system solution. All software applications and programs including operating system are installed in server and boot from server via network. Therefore, all PCs do not require a hard disk to be installed. Easy to manage since it is the server you are maintaining not the clients.

We have provided 2 diskless solutions for different industry. If you guys have interested about diskless system, please click below for more info:
