Hey guys, I was at the BMW showroom today. The salesman told me theres a prereg bmw available, and the pricing is within budget. But the catch is the car isn't registered yet, and they need to "accumulate 2k mileage" & have the car registered at their place for 2 months first before releasing it. Have anyone heard of such thing?

Pre reg - already register and 0 mileage

Pre own - already register and have mileage.

Most of conti car has this prereg/preown promotion.

If the car below 12 months, u can get new car interest.

Last time in 2014, i help my father to buy w204 amg model mileage 6k, register on same year. Price 210k.. interest we got 2.7%..

I see okay, thanks a lot. Then it's a bit strange that the salesman said the car needs to accumulate 2k mileage, seeing that you say pre reg is registered but 0 mileage.

Was hoping there's no such requirement to wait 2 months tho, but oh well, the price difference is quite significant.

I know 2 people who got a BMW pre reg, one with 0 km and another with 13 km. About the 2 months thing, that i'm not too sure.

pre-own will be much lower and the prices is still negotiable ... just like use car with better warranty.
pre-reg, i think there is fix prices or very slight nego, as Co use internal for tax reduction than resales it smile.gif (some tax grey area)

Gee!! Thanks! For pre-own, as this has been used for by their top management, guess to use normal 2nd hand value as a guidance. What about Pre-reg, any rule of thumb? 10%?

Thought MB some years back ran into trouble with IRB on this scheme, so they might have found another "trick" blink.gif

Do you need special connection to get this pre-reg car? or it's a norm.

When i was in BMW show room, they didn't mention on this, perhaps I should ask kua

Hapseng star have a lot of pre-own as they have many division (home, loan, plantation, mosaic n bla bla bla) ......
Yup u can ask around for pre-own but everyone is offering different Prices cause is used car.
for example last week HSS manager offer a 6month old c200 for rm 210k (i think 30k cheaper than brand new), but with some internal connection (me some how work with HapSeng before), able to get it at 19Xk smile.gif

For Bmw pre-reg, basically i heard from friend, as they buy it as min 30k-80k cheaper (depend on model). assume pre-reg is a lot better as is BRAND new car with two name on the title ....

I got my pre-reg from Auto Bavaria but had it's original registration changed to my own selected plate number. So on registration card it shows that I'm the first owner.

No one offer me then at HSS, the one in Kinrara. They don't even give discount, not a single sen, only 2 service coucher worth RM 1,200 each, only when they got to know I was checking at C&C nod.gif

For pre reg and pre own, walk in to any branch. They have a list for the car. Last time when i want to buy w204, the car is from Ipoh, they bring it to glenmarie.

Pre- registered means it was already registered! If you are the new owner , the ownership should be transferred to you and it will become a second name ! So can you shed some light on how your reg card only show one owner 's name?

BMW, Merc always have such offer. They wanted sales volume by giving lower price unofficially via pre-reg and pre-owned. Because of this, grey import business affected that they slash more price to compete. Price is affordable than buying brand new if you don't mind being 2nd owner

Based on what I know, some car brand principal require the car to have certain mileage before it can be consider as pre-reg (normally is demo car).

Pre-reg = dealer is first owner. (low mileage)
Pre-own = previously owned by another customer. (possibly high mileage)

Yes, looks like it.

It is more like a second hand car (as it should be registered as second owner, but someone mentioned can registered in our own name thus 1st name, not sure), and perhaps continue warranty with better maintenance by the car dealer.

May consider this later laugh.gif

When I decided to purchase it from Auto Bavaria Glenmarie with KL registration number WB xxxxC, I told the SA that I wanted my own number under Selangor registration and then tendered the number at JPJ Padang Jawa. Once I got the number, SA introduced me to an agent at Wangsu Maju since the process to change it is less problematic at JPJ KL. The agent called me to be present at JPJ Wangsa Maju and within 30 minutes the clerk just deregistered the old number and issued a new one. Of course the agent charged me for his efforts.

Now with the new VOC, every transfer of ownership, the new owner will get a new VOC.
One won't know the ownership history unless he/she perform a search at JPJ.

As far as my registration card is concerned it only shows my name as the first owner. JPJ should have all the records but it does not matter. I got my preferred plate number even though I didn't have to buy a motor cycle or whatever

By me. They call it, courtesy drive.

But i need to hit the 1k in less than 2 weeks, else have to go back to puspakom for inspection to do ownership transfer since that's the grace period

So i went to penang, eat some cendol and then come back to sign off the docs biggrin.gif

Also, because my car was pre-reg after i bought it. Usually, zero mileage pre-reg cars no need to do this if the car is pre-registered for more than 1 month before a buyer purchases it

Your number is just bought one?

It's easy to get, either you tender or check with senior officer if the number you prefer is still available, could be old numbers. At one time I got a number for BML even though the running number was BNA

A bit confusing. The car was alresdy registered under dealer's name right? Why need to complete 1,000 in 2 weeks else have to do Puspakom transfer again? Means u have alresfy been to Puspakom to inspect and transfer once? And u said " my car pretegisteted AFTER u bought it" what do u mean???

Answer is , MITI nowadays very active to spot check traders to ensure they are not selling cars too cheaply . So a lot of car manufacturers nowadays are doing these tactics in order during audit able to show that these cars were 'demo cars and not brand new hence the discount is justified.

I bought the car first. Then only BMW do pre-register.

Unlike your case. The car is already pre-registered before u even buy.

My point is every dealer and every pre-reg case is unique. Chill.

As long as u r buying frm renowned bmw dealer, jst follow the procedure and the car will be urs in no time.

Meet the Pengarah of the JPJ branch.
Usually there's a list of "unclaimed" numbers

MB has it too
It's a way to give discount without angering those who bought new
It also enables the dealer to provide courtesy cars (low mileage, almost new pre-reg) or company cars to their directors, etc (usually about 1 year old)

But take not that most luxury brands has corporate discounts and do compare the value of the discount vs pre-reg

Actually, not all the numbers can be bought on mysikap and i'm not talking about single digit numbers. Popular numbers such as 8585 can't be bought on mysikap (unless things have changed)
