So, you're the type of person who doesn't change phone very often....good for you...
I strongly suggest to get the Xiaomi Mi A1 as it has more storage and same 14nm SoC. With this SoC, the phone should be able to secure the battery for 3 years because it does not overheat even under heavy usage. The main reason to get the A1 is 2 years OS support from Google/Xiaomi. Even if say the 3K mAh battery dies before reaching 2 years, we can always opt for powerbank as the ultimate solution. Screen is subjective as Super AMOLED is prone to "burn-in" but no P2 owners worldwide has reported this for the past 12 months.
P2 screen is claimed to have Corning Gorilla Glass 3. But the weak point is located at the fingerprint scanner region where the screen is depressed/sunken due to excessive screws holding at the back of the panel/glass. So, sudden impact within this region is anticipated to shatter the whole glass altogether. Applying cheap tempered glass is the viable workaround (no need 2 layers anymore) but there is still another issue of bubbles around the depressed/sunken area. We can solve this by applying "white filler" below:

Getting a rugged shock-proof case is also encouraged to secure the beautiful 700-nits Super AMOLED screen.
Overall, if I were you, I'll go for the Mi A1 for safer long term considerations...else, can just get the second hand P2 for alternative as the brand new P2 is still reaching RM1K at the moment...
Xiaomi Mi A1 was one of my choices before I got the Redmi Note 4x then P2. Before that was using S7E and Note 5.
One of the reason I didn't get Mi A1 is the screen quality, after looking at some demos, it looks washed out compared to Note 4x and P2. Second is I don't like carrying powerbank around, with my phone, wallet, keys, my pockets always crammed with things. The Mi A1 still questionable whether it can last me the whole day, as Redmi 4x sometimes go down to 6 hours SOT with heavy usage already. With Mi A1 for my usage maybe only 4-5 hours SOT, which means it won't last a day. So far only Redmi Note 4 and P2 are full day phones that I managed to try.
