Looks like the issue of GPS is to do with the software in Nougat that interfacing with the chip module.

I'm forced to choose other brand due to this GPS issue or else Redmi Note 4 is one of the best budget phone in town other than average camera quality. sad.gif

Should I put my hope on future Redmi Note 5 now?  hmm.gif

Either be patient for the technical team to come out with fix sooner or later.

My Redmi Note 4 is updated to Miui 8.5.4.0 which IS based on Nougat.  And the GPS works wonderfully.
*
You update it using the OTA or manual update ?
Those having issue is it the same or some differences in common between them ?

Same as my other friend who is also facing the slow lock in and instability from the latest MIUI 8 build. Wondering what could be the trigger of it and why some Ok some not Ok.

so technically
N3 SD 650 > better on gaming?
N4 SD 625 > daily use and battery life?
*
Yes, you may say like that but intense gaming consume a lot of battery juice too. While SD 625 good enough for average use and video contents. Gaming such as Pokémon Go also fine as the battery can last you whole day without power bank, left around 10% or less from morning until night, roughly 10 hours+. I guess if use a good custom ROM, that may even surpassing that mark.

u using it for pogo? some say gps problem?

if custom rom = root?
*
Yes, the battery life performace is just very good for this game. GPS yes, the latest build does have its issue of locking, slower than before but I believe that could be solved sooner or later, hopefully at least. Yes, but I don't play with custom ROM.

I've been tried a number of custom rom but it seems that miui still offer the best battery life. Might need some tweak but i'm too lazy to try all of that.
*
Ah, thanks for the feedback, looks like MIUI implements very "efficient" power management.

Anyone know the known list of chip that overheat?

We all know that mediatek generally overheat the phone. Snapdragon also was fighting with the same issue with their chip last time. iinm the chips used in oneplus 2.

I know exynos 3-4 years ago sucks so bad.

Anyone know if huaeei kirin chip got any issue with overheat? Which model?

Wonder if xiaomi upcoming in-house "Surge S2" chip will have this issue. And hoping that xiaomi wont ditch snapdragon.
Edited : just realised surge 2 is built on 16nm fab. Power efficiency wise should be lower than sn625?
*
Older Snapdragon 616 in Redmi 3 Pro also facing overheat issue. While Honor 6X also good in power efficiency, Kirin 655 quite good considered it is built in 16nm while SD 625 in 14nm.

I guess all phones will face overheat issue when your phone antenna always try to keep connected to the best possible connection like 4G. At that moment, phone tend to be heating up more.

Same. Any way to fix it without having to root the device? hmm.gif

Have to wait for them to release a fix as many people already submit as bug report to MIUI. I am not sure whether Waze can do anything on it, perhaps their programmer can find a solution and release updated version.

Off topic: Mi A1 is coming to Malaysia at the end of this month. Same spec with Redmi note 4 except with smaller 3080mah battery, dual camera and runs on stock android Nougat.
https://www.lowyat.net/2017/140077/xiaomi-m...september-2017/

~It's a Mi5x for global market.
*
I guess the battery life will still be not as good as RN4...
Although it is running on Pure Android.

3080mah vs. 4100mah ?

iinm miui is better in battery life than stock android.

Will wait and see if the battery life capable to be on par or slightly lower than RN4. If it's dual camera and battery life is good. Maybe i'll sell my rn4 and get that phone. Pure android is too tempting, plus promised to be updated to oreo by end of this year. The big cons is that 1k mah battery different from rn4.
*
I kinda agree that that difference of 1K mah speak a lot of difference. A trade off to a better camera system and vanilla Android...for some who like it...

One month of usage after getting Note 4. Battery life still superb but not as tahan like first few days when I received it. Still last me for 1 day though even with gaming (Clash Royale)

Anyway just a question. Is charging the battery overnight will deteriorate the battery life? Cause I read somewhere saying charging it overnight and it reaches 100% and somehow will pressure the battery due to high tension of the electricity.
*
It is very likely due to your apps installed and those running processes.

RN4 64G @ LZD RM769 before any discount, worth to get now OR switch to MIA1 next month?

See if you prefer better camera system and stock Android or this longer battery life with MIUI ?

I guess MIA1 may cost up to RM999+ - ?

i nvr did anything.. probably some apps updated automatically through wifi & issue got resolve.
But not sure which apps caused gps issue.
*
I am still having slow lock in on GPS. I am finding the underlying cause which app is indirectly causing the issue, perhaps the Google services in Nougat for this ROM.

I would like to thank all the contributors here for addressing the GPS lock in issue in the Redmi Note 4. For the past few weeks I thought I'm insane and for the past few days I know that I'm not alone. Thank you for proving me right that some unlucky ones like us really having GPS lock in and stability issue. Thank you!  notworthy.gif

Of course you are not alone... happy.gif
