what's the difference between telephoto and zoom lens?

well, i might be wrong.

zoom lens is the lens that can zoom in and zoom out (multi focal length) eg. 55-200mm, while tele photo lens is the lens dedicated for long distance focusing but with fix focal length eg. 300mm

hmmm...that's the only difference?

I think that...

- a telephoto lens, is a lens with a narrow angle of view (not entirely true, but will do).
- a zoom lens, is a lens which allows the angle of view to be varied

narrow angle of view = long focal length

Zoom lens -- Lens which can vary by an x amount of its lowest focal length; e.g. 17-55mm (3.2x), 18-200mm (11.1x), 14-45mm (3.2x)

Telephoto lens -- Lens which provide higher focal length than 50mm but up to 200mm

Super telephoto lens -- Lens which provide more than 200mm of focal length

Prime lens -- Lens which provide a fix focal length
