Hi guys,

I am planning to subscribe to this digi 150 plan.
I have a few questions related to network setup.
Does anyone has any idea whether this setup will work?

user posted image

See my current setup and how I want it to change.
The 4g lte modem/router will be placed further from the living room, near window to get higher reception.
Gigabit lan cable is not possible in my case, so I have to add a wireless router in between to connect by wireless.
I am also not sure how/where to set the dns(adblock server) in this case.

Please advise.
Thanks.

Why dont just replace the ADSL to 4G router, and use external antenna put outside the windows?
Much simple and more efficent way.
*
Because free cable that comes with external antenna cannot be longer than 2m, otherwise there will be signal loss.
I need to put the 4g lte router close to the window, which is upstairs, to make matter difficult it is a different house.

That's some complex setup there, what about using adblock feature on custom firmware router like tomato?
*
On my current setup, it works similarly that way.
I already setup my adblock server as the primary dns in Lede (a fork of OpenWRT) which is a vm in the server.
But not sure how can I do it in the new setup.

Hmm... not sure how is your situation but if me, i will think some solutions just replace the ADSL to 4G. I see your current setup, should be no problem, but increase some ping.
Quality cable for antenna can reach to 10m.
Cat 6 Lan can reach up to 100m.
What do different house mean? Next door or opposite street?
*
Upstairs is a different house. (imagine a shop house)
I just want to "tumpang" my 4g lte there because it has better signal and speed. So gigabit lan cable is not an option.
I just want all my devices, desktop and server can connect to the internet.

Works for me.
Used DD-WRT and configured as Wireless Repeater mode. Connect to E5786.

Configure different subnet between the DD-WRT and the E5786 and turned on DHCP server.
This bypasses the 10 device limit on the E5786 and also loading.
*
Thank you, you gave me some kind of comfort to go ahead with this plan.
The DHCP server is at your ddwrt router correct?
Also, if you ever going to specify a different dns server, it will also be in your ddwrt router correct?
I have not purchased the 4g lte modem yet, however I have tested wireless client mode yesterday with my spare wireless router and it works.
In my network setup, I need the wireless router to be in client mode smile.gif

Haha my only choice then is to try out the digi infinite I guess
*
I have terminated my 1mbps streamyx last week, I am very happy with my digi 150 now.
It is definitely a good investment for me.
I got 30mbps down and 12mbps up.

Where are you staying?
Have you confirmed yet your area is in digi 4g coverage?

Wow, that speed is great. That's just the testing speed? My test speed is also very promising numbers, but actual upload & download were no where near those figures.
*
Most of the time I can see the dl speed is around 24 to 30.
But recently I can see it reached 37.
I am capping it to 27 to control my ping and latency purpose.

Me melaka, confirmed got 4g connection. Highest i tried is 25mbps, but this morning i try highest less thn 10, anyhow gonna register and buy a modem to try... which modem the best? TPlink mr200 or huawei e5180?
*
During my evaluation period to test the 4g network, using phone is never stable for me..
So I leave it to fate and purchased a 4g modem/router.
Now everything is good, speed is stable.

I am using e5180, EE version.
The one without the telephone jack.

I'm sorry I do not know since I do not need the free phone call.
So I specifically looked for the modem without the phone jack.

Mine very big difference.
On phone, 1mbps - 7mbps. Avg at 3mbps.
Occasionally can reach 16mbps.
But very hard to get a stable speed.
But on modem, suddenly jump to 24mbps at least.

Have you tried go around your house and find the best location?
Mine nearby the window.

Menggatal also. Digi's cs informed that the network maintenance is undergoing right now until 12 May 2017. They suggest to change the mobile network connection to 3G for the time being. I have locked mine yesterday and the max speed that i captured at night time is around 2Mbps only.  cry.gif
*
I am also experiencing network issue since yesterday.
Usually my ping is around 20ms.
But since yesterday I got around 70ms.
My dl speed is less than 1mbps most of the time.
The customer service also mentioned that there is an ongoing maintenance until 12 May.
Though I am not sure if this maintenance is Peninsular-wide or just my area as I forgot to ask about it.

im afraid that speedtest/fast.com doesnt directly translate into real world download speed..

most of the time, the speed is unstable.im afraid digi is capping our speed..
*
speedtest.net calculates average
you may try dslreports.com, the bufferbloat calculation is very useful if you want to tweak your router qos/sqm.

QUOTE(alikato94 @ May 4 2017, 01:44 PM)
i also aiming at this model, because cheaper. can combo with router right? to extend wifi range. can it connect with external antenna?
and its. cat 4 right?
*
yes, you can combo with router.
it should have external antenna port if you buy from local seller.

Economical but selling at the same price... ? Does not make any sense
*
Probably you missed the price point.
The e-5180 model that andrewestore is selling is indeed an economical one.
The exact model is e5180AS-22.
The A here is most likely meant that it does not include the phone jack. And that's it!
The price is RM320 compared to the e5180S-22 which is at RM380.
So you get what you paid for.

e5180S-22 and the b310S-22 are at the similar price point.
It looks like b310 is the better choice if you are comparing this specific model as the b310 comes with gigabit lan, whereas e5180 is only fast ethernet lan.

but i would like to ask something, Is it normal when max out the bandwidth the latency higher? around 1000 ms?
*
QUOTE(MrLoo @ May 4 2017, 07:46 PM)
Here is my speedtest through dslreports, Quality is A+ but bufferbloat is D, maybe i still using my phone as modem that's y bufferbloat is damn high rclxms.gif
My test result
*
If you maxed out your bandwidth, it is normal to have high latency. (bufferbloat/latency/lag are the same thing)
Because there is not enough room for other things.
It is very easy to experience this when someone is online gaming and someone else is using the internet.
That person will yell out because his game lags.
With proper QOS/SQM in router, you could reduce the latency to a bearable level.
I had as high as 1,600ms bufferbloat in my test.
That is around D or F in dslreports.com
Buffer is handled by the ISP.
If you do not want the ISP to handle the buffer for you, you have to handle it on your side.
Now I get A+ or A after I have managed my SQM in my router.

You can google "reduce bufferbloat" to get an idea about it.

Can E5180 manually control SQM?
*
I am not sure about that.
I did not look deeper into the settings.
My 4g router will just provide the internet to my network.
My other router will handle the rest (dhcp, adblock, sqm)

Mind sharing your config for qos/sqm on your router?
Are you using custom firmware?
*
Yes, I am running Lede.
I installed a package called SQM.
You may refer to the details here.

If I am not mistaken, there is such thing stated in the terms and condition.
I believe they guaranteed at least 5mbps on 4g network.
Please refer back to the T&C.
---------
I have just done a quick check.
I could not see this in the T&C.
Probably I saw it elsewhere. doh.gif

speedtest app using nearest route to test.

fast app using international route to test.

I would not say that.
Perhaps, Speedtest calculates the average speed while Fast shows the speed /sec.
