the answer is avast is scanning "everything" brows.gif ...but maybe not. if its a new installation:
- it could be doing an initial scan?
- it could be generating the VRDB?
eg:
19/09/2006 8:34:32 PM SYSTEM 1940 VRDB (Virus Recovery Database) generation was successfully completed.
22/10/2006 9:05:15 PM SYSTEM 1960 VRDB (Virus Recovery Database) generation was successfully completed.
14/01/2007 2:25:09 AM SYSTEM 1932 VRDB (Virus Recovery Database) generation was successfully completed.

the log is blank because fortunately there is nothing worthy of logging? were ALL the different logs empty? did you change your logging level?

personally, i dislike avast, although i'm using it, because the real-time scanning seems slower and causes lag when program launch. the "a" seems to be spinning all the time.
