Hi.
Been digging and research as per title. i still don't understand benefits between those 2. Anyone with experience care to elaborate?
-hardware RAID more reliable than software RAID or vice versa?
been using dual bay RAID. hardware mode. and i realised that the new macOS Sierra support software RAID. if, i buy, let say 4 bay hdd dock. means i can RAID all 4 of them in software mode? correct me if im wrong.
Thanks!

Mac has already discontinued software raid (Native) since El capitan. You will need a 3rd party software raid.
I would go hardware raid at this point of time.
Previously the difference wasn't much but hardware raid means more pcs/macs can share it. Software raid obviously is cheaper.
Cheers

Even in el capitan u can actually do RAID but only using Terminal in recovery. I guess the performance wise are about the same right?

But both RAIDs are still not absolute failproof. Have to keep in mind that in case your data is important.
