No. It is not a trap. You only need to register your MasterCard (MasterCard issued in Malaysia, not necessarily must be a Public Bank MasterCard) to get your discount code. After that you can make your hotel reservation through the normal Expedia landing page. All you need is to apply the discount code at checkout.

I stand corrected. But some banks do explicitly state that applicant's age must be between 21-65 years old to apply for credit card such as Maybank using income documents. I don't know if exception applies to those who get their credit card by pledging FD versus pure credit extension aka unsecured lending.
