Stepdown Converter is to convert the voltage input from your power source, into the Wii.

If you do not use the stepdown converter, your wii power adapter, or Wii console may fuse, and it's not coverable by any type of warranty.

This is because you are using an American Wii console, refered as US Wii(NTSC/US).

And all American Wii console's ship with Wii Sports included.
