Apple just announced a speed bump on the existing Mac Pro series with no changes on hardware (old ports and what no) lame... but hold your horses.... There will be new Mac Pros (with modular system) and Pros display coming next year, according to Phil.

QUOTE
With regards to the Mac Pro, we are in the process of what we call “completely rethinking the Mac Pro”. We’re working on it. We have a team working hard on it right now, and we want to architect it so that we can keep it fresh with regular improvements, and we’re committed to making it our highest-end, high-throughput desktop system, designed for our demanding pro customers.

QUOTE
As part of doing a new Mac Pro — it is, by definition, a modular system — we will be doing a pro display as well. Now you won’t see any of those products this year; we’re in the process of that. We think it’s really important to create something great for our pro customers who want a Mac Pro modular system, and that’ll take longer than this year to do.

As for new iMacs, they also revealed it's coming this year. So yeah, i can't wait to see what Apple going to do with new iMacs and Mac pros, because this 2016 fully loaded piece of shit MacBook Pro of mine can't hardly breath on a dual-4k setup.

Yeah, I am excited to see what the new iMac as well as the modular Mac Pro will look like in the future.

There are more hints today at external GPU's for the Macbook Pro's as well

MacBookPro11,5 prior to touch bar model. I loaded it up all options thought it will replace my Macpro. Nope. What a mistake. It runs hot, like freaking jet engine LOUD and bloated on 4k/60hz dual monitors outfit. Note that the 11,6 model doesn't improve much on spec.

While your planned set up capable to do dual 5k/60hz doesn't meant it will runs smooth. This terrible ultra thin chassis have hard time with air circulation, doesn't matter how good the design is, especially in warm room, you just want to throw that piece of bloated junk in the trash can. I get by using low resolution settings in ice cold room and constantly have to unplug one monitor out, let it cool down and put thing back in.

Anyway, what size of 5k screen? i have hard time already reading texts on 4k 27-inch. i can't imagine using a 5k unless it's well above 32-inch, preferably 40.

With recent announcement on Apple determines to revive PRO user bases with new iMac Pro, Mac Pro and Macbook Pro, it won't be wise to consider the 11,6 Touchbar model. I believe the next round of update won't be that mediocre, it should be a significant update, considering the insult on share market loses for Pro segments.

There are couple dozen of configurations from 2K to easily over 10K USD set up on 2013 MacPro. 11,6 Toucbar with 16G blows away which old lady panty again?

I am currently using 11.5. plan to change it to 15" MBP Touch bar because of MacPro dilemma. buy new now. it is outdated one. buy secondhand... some says MBP Touch with FCPX performance blows away the 2013 Mac Pro. even Casey Neistat ditch his MP and edited his 4k with the current MBP. demoted his MP to be files server. biggrin.gif

Plan actually to get fully loaded 15" MBP Touch with dual LG UltraFine 5k and run FCPX with it. can't find anything in youtube to see the performance running FCPX with this setup.

Yeah you are right, if the rumours are true that Apple is working to build a 8K monitor for Pro usage, that means that future pro devices such as the Mac Pro, iMac Pro, Macbook Pro should be able to support up to that resolution. Hopefully with the new Kaby Lake architecture they can also implement up to 32Gb of RAM for the MBP. It will be a long wait!

That it! The feeling of let down by Apple in Pro segment can't be denied. Man, i hate to be in your shoe but yeah, it's going to be a year before we get a glimpse of the next Macpro.

I used to work on 15 minutes weekly video segment on a old-gen slow-ass iMac that's having issues with overheat. Just 1080p source alone took overnight of processing and during the summer, the stupid thing reboot and we ended up have to redo it again unless we turn the AC on all night! Cheapskate boss ended up getting a new iMac because of excessive AC bill LOL.

good luck on your Project!

hmmm...cant wait for the new MacPro...project coming up in Jun..so no choice have to take the dive with the current MacPro on sale. 30 days of 4k shooting, transcode to prores, edit in 4k and output 4k edit to 1080p would be tough for any MacBook Pro alone.
can't be cheapskate on this one.
