Mukhsin

Synopsis
Orked is ten. Mukhsin is twelve. They meet during one school holiday and quickly become the best of friends. They play together and even dress alike. But everything comes to an end when Mukhsin has to go back to his village. Mukhsin never promised that he will be back, but Orked assure that she would ask her parents to drop by at Mukhsin's place, but a misunderstanding between them has changed everything. How does something so beautiful like love ruined something similarly beautiful like a friendship?

QUOTE
"With Mukhsin, I try to examine one common and uncomfortable human experience - what happens when your very best friend, someone with whom you've been learning to do cool best-friend things like climbing trees, flying kites, riding bicycles, and even getting into fights with other kids, starts to develop romantic notions about you," Yasmin explained on her blog.

There are some suprises, 3 Sharifahs, plenty of things that wasn't revealed, humor that are not lame, great music and beautiful backgrounds.

I never thought any of Yasmin's films are "controversial". Much of it is true and some are idealistic. But for the sake of comparison with the first 3 Orked films, Sepet > Gubra > Mukhsin > Rabun is how i would rank them.

Mukhsin Trailer
Majalah 3 on Mukhsin

Release Date: 8 March 2007
Running Time: 1 hour 35 minutes
Tagline: Everyone has a first love story to tell
Director : Yasmin Ahmad

Actor :
Mohd. Syafie Naswip (Mukhsin)
Sharifah Aryana Syed Zainal Rashid (Orked)
Sharifah Aleya Syed Zainal Rashid (Mak Inom)
Irwan Iskandar (Pak Atan)
Adibah Noor (Kak Yam)
Mislina Mustafa (Makcik Senah)

Trivial
Mukhsin means "Yang Berbuat Kebaikan"

There are 2 cameo appearances, be suprised smile.gif

The real Orked, Pak Atan and Mak Inom appeared in the end. Not too hard to figure this one out.

The Orked in Mukhsin is the younger Orked we see in Sepet. The younger Jason from Sepet is also in Mukhsin.

Yasmin even poke fun at the term "pencemar budaya" that critics has labelled her films with, LOL.

Yasmin Ahmad is a film director and writer from Malaysia. Her feature films to date include Rabun (2003), Sepet (2004), Gubra (2006) and Mukhsin

(2007).

There's things that i wanted to know so badly.

What was written on the tail of the kite?
My best guess is "Don't Leave Me" as the song is playing in that scene. Anyone want try guess? Definitely not "I Love You" though. At first, i thought it's "I'm Sorry"

From NST:
QUOTE
There is one particular scene in the poignant coming-of-age drama, in which Orked runs after Mukhsin after reading a note scribbled by the boy on a kite (Yasmin had refused to disclose its contents, saying that she told Mohd Syafie to express his whole feelings to Aryana through writing). What did it say?

"Oh, that's a secret..." she said with a smile.

What is Orked doing under the bed? With the cat?

A complete translation of all those Chinese words and more specifically those on Orked's blackboard. Yasmin said this has some meaning, too bad i can't read Chinese. All those who can read please translate for us, please?

i hope this movie is just good clean fun to watch. yasmin ahmad seems to rely on controversial matters too much. plus, sepet was good, but it was so overrated. haven't watched gubra yet, but i hope mukhsin is a lot better.

aiya this is the kinda films we expect 2 watch come out in local cinema instead of the lame malay love movies with the same lame malay casts...YA is definitely the only one director who dare 2 do differently over the top unlike other directors n thus she shall earn my respect notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

I intend to buy the DVD when its released (IF its released).

Oh man, you should've stayed for Gubra till after the credits finished rolling. The most beautiful scene in Gubra, the reason why Ng Choo Seong's name is on the poster. The cinema staff should tell the audience lah...sad. Pay attention to their fingers if u were to watch it again. rclxms.gif Jason really did died if u look at the timeline of all 4 movies. Yes, not 3 movies, but 4 movies about the Orked family.

I stayed till the credits finish rolling for Mukhsin as well. But no extra, FYI.

Explicit? LOL. Seems like a hell lot of people didn't get to watch that last scene. Next time Gubra is shown on TV, wait till the credits finish rolling. U'll understand then.

QUOTE
Berita Harian 12/03/2006 - Surat dari Pembaca

'Mukhsin' bukan budaya Melayu Islam

KHAIRUL ANUAR MUSA,
Persatuan Kebangsaan Pelajar Islam Malaysia.

There's 4 movies about Orked's family, Rabun, Sepet, Gubra and Mukhsin.

Rabun is about Orked's parent and their neighbours. Irony that Mukhsin contain at least some character from all previous 3 movies. Ho Yuhang appear in Rabun and Mukhsin.

QUOTE(azarimy @ Mar 12 2007, 04:57 AM)

Read my previous post. Gubra prove Jason really died. In Mukhsin, we also see something...spoiler. How can that happen? Fantasy of Orked n Mukhsin? It's just there for the sake of a beautiful scene. That scene showed an alternate version of the ending in Sepet. How can Mukhsin be a prequel and a sequel at the same time? What if? What if? What if?

That guy is obviously dumb and no brain. Why do he have to complain about a movie that harm no one? He should go parade on the streets asking to ban cigarettes, since it obviously kill u sooner or later. Why is Muslim allowed to smoke when obviously al-Quran said we shouldn't do anything very unhealthy. Pork doesn't kill u yet cannot eat since it's in al-Quran but cigarettes that's so obvious unhealthy is allowed since it's not in the al-Quran. Get a life. Oh, BTW, budaya changes and we set our own budaya. "Pencemar budaya"! Why don't u go tangkap all those Muslim girls that dedahkan aurat all over public uni? That's like 40% of all Muslim students studying in public uni right there.

If Mukhsin harm so much of the budaya Melayu Islam, then 80% of all local movie should be reconsidered as well. Perempuan Melayu Hina dedahkan aurat, tetek muncul di Remp-it, rape scene in Embun and so many other adult with full-blown sexual desires khalwat with Muslim girsl with the aurat all over the place.

It is our culture that anything good is bad, and anything bad is good. But that's why I like Yasmin Ahmad, she's not the kind of person that say "NO" just because some random idiots with holier-than-thou attitude thinks we should be living in times where women should never be allowed to work or drive or actually have a life. I bet you good money that this people are complaining not out of piety, but jealousy.

after watching mukhsin i'm a bit disappointed. I watched all three yasmin ahmad movies and i thought she would bring a different in this movie but then it is all the same. I didnt see any new features. She doesn't have inisiative to try something new i guess.

with a low budget movie like that (shoot in the village, no wardrobe, no expensive cars/house) i know she doesn't have much choice to try something new. But still if she still insist to make another movie like this people will get bored and will call her stereotype director.

Too much unneccesary scenes and most of the scene no dialogue involved

Too much unneccesary scenes and most of the scene no dialogue involved

That's called establishing the mood. Slow pace but very effective when done correctly. Why should there be dialogues all the time? Then, u should go watch DN2, where L predict everything like he wrote the script.

Mind telling me those unneccesary scenes? I think every scene establish the mood and is not wasted.

"Mukhsin" is the final part of the director's trilogy about Orked and her family. I am so taken by "Mukhsin" that I'm going to hunt down the two previous movies.
