Hi,

Recently, I have been offered a job to translate a over 20 pages report from Chinese to English for an association. I am not a full time translator. Previously, I have helped the association to translate several times, but that was just one or two pages each time, so I did not charge them for that. For this report, as the volume is big (20+pages). I would like to have some return for the time and effort that I'm gonna spend on it.

For qualification, I hold a degree but its not related to translation. They have given me 3 weeks to do the task and asked for a quotation.

I am not sure how should I charge (by page? by word?) and how much can I charge them. Kindly advice.

I understand for those approved translators they charged between RM80 to RM150 per page for legal documents.

I am a full time freelance translator.
The price is normally determined by the subject.
Specialised subjects demand higher payment.

There is no fix price going on in Malaysia for translation rates. It seems like translation services in Malaysia are getting complicated day by day. Some translators charge higher as per their profile or sometime they charge higher if they already have so much work. Translators and translation companies keep varying their prices because of all above mentioned factors.

Hello,

Greetings!

There is no fix price for translators in Malaysia but

Well, in order to determine the translation rate per hour you should take several factors into consideration. The first one is of course how much you charge per word. This factor depends on your translation quality and on your experience. The second one is how much you can translate in an hour. For example, if you are an experienced translator your rate would be around $ 0.2 per word. If you can translate 200 words an hour then your with is 40$ per hour. However, if you can translate 400 words in an hour then your worth is 80$ an hour.

There are more things you need to take into account. Read this for more details: https://translatehub.org/average-translation-rates/
