Far as I can tell, the only Chinese who die die want these titles are those involved in scams as the title helps add a false air of legitimacy. Majority of us don't actually fucking care, and have little respect for people who do have these titles.

this i totally disagree. i been with dato alot, you should see how ppl bodek and sembah them.

There a few type of ppl i seen

1. will challenge whether your title is genuine or not

2. treat you extra good and give u vvip

3. boast they know dato, datuk or be friends

i have very little respect some that boast their title and keep telling me they have a title.

i know one very beneficial if you get stop by selected authority the card inside helps alot or imprint that name on your credit card some eatery or shop will treat you better.

the title also help when you are writing letter to complaint authority. If your letter show normal consumer 1 week, if title in letterhead personally call you in 1 hour

most of the people who want the tile is developers. without the tile, it is hard for them to get approval or consnet from the mayor,etc

i know some low profile developer but due to losing chance to other datuk in bidding the lands, they have to 'invest' for the tile for company prostect

Not really. My father rejected the title twice. 1st one back in 96 or 98 2nd one a few yrs after dat. He got it from the sultan of Kelantan not Pahang aa.
