you need to wait till get an sms saying

Your line is about to be activated on the Digi network. Please replace your current SIM card with the new Digi SIM when the line is deactivated.

only then insert your new dg sim

I redeemed mine this morning and forget how already. Your app looks different to mine too. Why not login to Connect via web and look for internet add-on there. Or else reach out to DG CS for help.

Yes, this is how DG recurring internet works since day one.

I know U Mobile and Hotlink, you can just cancel auto-renewal and the subscription will continue and then lapse at the end of its natural life.

DG cancels the plan immediately so you need to wait till the last day to cancel.
