Good day everyone. I've been thinking of buying a new CKD Polo 1.6, may I know any problems with the car the owners have faced? I know it has the conventional 6 Speed Auto instead of DSG transmission. But just want some feedback from current owners about reliability. Thanks 👍

I assume you are talking about the Polo hatchback. My family has the 1.6 Polo Sedan which has the same engine and gearbox. one year on, so far the car has been quite reliable (other than a faulty fuel gauge), if a bit pricey to service.

You mean the promo now at RM69,888?

I have been a fan of polo hatchback and golf especially

I think the polo is based on the Audi A1 platform?

Like the interior quality and space. Boot space is decent. A good supermini hatchback nonetheless

But I'll prefer the 1.2T version. The power is just so much better. Heard the 1.6L is noisy

Yes talking about the hatchback. So how pricy is it to service when compared to a Vios or City or even a Mazda 2?

Yes right the promo right now seems like a good deal. Im not going for a 1.2T because it has a DSG gesrbox which has a problematic mechatronic part if I'm not mistaken.

My house mia was RM550+ for the first 15k km/12 months. Next service at 30k km/24 months was told to expect RM700-800 due to spark plug replacement.

Spark plugs are RM200++. Don't ask me why so expensive, it's even more expensive than it's TSI siblings.

Yes I have been taking a look at the City and Vios, but just wanted something a bit more fun to drive, so even considering a second hand Proton Inspira or even a Lancer.

Wow that is insanely costly for just Spark Plugs. That too for a locally assembled car.

don ever try to service outside and being a cheapskate...because u need officially to be within VW service record to claim anything...

within our VW enthusiast already facing this issue which he service outside and unable to claim warranty...

Oh btw its every 15k km/12 months service once. Not 5k once and another 10k once. Its about the same price for other cars to service twice within 15k km or a year. I only pay a visit to service centre like once in a year.

driving the sedan type.
so far very happy with the car although some issues as below:
- service will be slightly expensive, but it's yearly or 15K basis, and it's german car so manyak mahal loh. devil.gif
- the car i feel a bit underpower, but feels very solid and stable.
- i feel that HB type is faster than sedan type, maybe it's just my feeling only. whistling.gif

ohya, according to SC, polo 1.6 type service will be more expensive on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc... specially the 4th one.

In my brief test drive....I feel that it's more fun....better handling, better engine + gearbox, and better interior quality.

Not sure about the maintenance, I guess it is similiar to the other Sushis. But I do know the battery costs twice as much as a normal battery due to the i-stop system.

Actually just delaying some items such as spark plug, air filter, pollen filter from 2nd service to 3rd service.
Doesn't matter how, still bleeding blood, just 1 year later, haha.

now i only realize that Volkswagen Polo Sedan 1.6 CKD is Indian car.

all the while, what i know is VW is German Car, and Polo Sedan 1.6 is build/assemble in India (CBU unit) and CKD in our local plant.

chassis maybe same with polo hatch, but rear suspension definitely different from polo hatch. About 3cm taller on the rear, different coil spring and absorbers (manufactured from Gabriel India) used, with tuning toward softest at best to suit for India pothole road. Many Indian owner been complaining the soft floating drive with comparison to Korean cars which become stiffer in recent years.

slightly better than axias, peroduas and protongs.

imo, too small for my liking. Golf is a better option and for the price point, better you go with City or Vios. larger spaces for same price. Only difference is the badge, which tbh, VW doesn't mean much in luxury these days.

The standard service schedule for VW is 1 year / 15,000KM. So you have to average out to get a fair comparison. (other cars normally 6months/10,000KM or 3months/5,000KM)

This car when it first came out years back, I went for a test drive at Glenmarie. Tested together with a friend. So 3 people in the car including the salesman. I sit at the back. I tested back to back with another Golf 1.4 TSI too.

I myself found the rear suspension very jumpy when go over taller road bumps. Golf 1.4TSI don't have such problem. City is better in this area. This alone already put me off.
Looking at the interior plastics and assembly quality wise, Polo is far better than City. Steering wheel is typical continental feel ,nice weighted.

Hi Polo owners,

I just went for a Polo 1.6 HB test drive (Penang) and and I love it nod.gif
However when I ask about the maintenance cost, this is what the SA shows me and the price seems to be higher than what was discussed in the forum.

Can anyone verify the maintenance cost?

15mths/15K - RM 741.50
24mths/30K - RM 1090.00
36mths/45k - RM 995.00
48mths/60K - RM 2,500.40

Thanks smile.gif

About right, I think few months ago they revised the maintenance schedule. You will notice every service they will replace the air filter and Aircond pollen filter. Parts and labour for these 2 items sum up higher

The polo is a good buy to be honest for the price. I would go for it if i still have a choice

The maintenance cost for it is normal. Blame the GST and you know who

I have a classmate who works in the stocklist. He say actually the things are very affordable but you know who raise the tax, add GST and car companies have no choice to raise the price otherwise they will all go bankrupt just by service only

Thx... U're using it for nearly 4yrs...no major issue...thats great...

Only periodical service is expensive.... I'm comparing it with jazz...also resale value for vw is not so good...

In dilemma...jazz vs polo hb

For Hatchbacks, if you want bigger interior space, cheaper maintenance and RV, go for Jazz, else go for Polo HB 1.6NA for the remaining good factors. Get 1.6NA with 6speed aisin gearbox if you do not want headache later. The most obvious differences between Jazz with Polo are solid car feeling with better car handling.

My wife drive polo 1.6 hb, almost 3 years..
Until today there are issues happened but solved by the sc..first, when newly buy u can feel like doors not well close/tight, after check sc replaced all the rubber lining, solved.. 2nd year, when do alignment, the foreman told me the disk got dent/bengkok a bit..but also replaced by sc then..because defect from factory..

My opinion handling, stability, torque, manual gear better than my honda city gm2.. fuel con also almost the same ave 15-17km/l..most important buy the car u likes, not people like..

The only drawback, cabin and boot quite small..

There is no advantage buying a Polo compared to a B segment Jap car like City or Vios unless you just want the badge. The Polo is not better to drive, no advantage in fuel economy, it is less reliable, more expensive parts and higher servicing cost. At the end of the day its second hand value is much worse. The Polo is just for badge snobs. Period.

My family have the Polo 1.6, Vios, City and Jazz. The difference in handling, steering and high speed composure is very obvious, not to mention the fit and finish is a league above especially compared to Honda.

If you just want a A-B car to putter along for your commute, any B-segment will do. But if you are looking for a bit of fun on the curvy segments in your daily routes, you might find yourself having a better experience in the Polo. The chassis is just that much better.

Of course, there are also downsides like the tin milo roof, some issues with parts durability and of course, VW aftersales.

Polo Sedan air cond intermittent problem.

Sometime cold, sometime no....already checked by 2 air cond specialist and changed the following items:

Air Cond cabin filter
Compressor
Coolant sensor.

The problem still exist, when the air cond not cold, the car like no power, RPM at 600 when idle.

The 2 air cond men said difficult to rectify intermittent problem, ask me to drive until it totally "died" only can see what is the problem.

Any advise and suggestion are welcome. I'm in Ampang area and prefer nearby workshop.
