I am fine with any of the 3 colors. Given a choice, my Preference will be dark grey follow by black and gold. Based on pre-order situation I can pick any which is convenient Don't be surprised those so called "haters" will join in too to pre-order !

Still using my IP7 Plus as my primary phone. Excellent phone. But maybe still buying S8+ when the 6GB RAM is available.
Last time when I preorder Note 7, I standby in front of my office computer laptop using very slow 1.5MB streamyx office wifi. But I still manage to preorder in less than 1 hour using the very slow internet connection.

Can tell what do we need to prepare for the preorder? Creating account etc? 😝

Dont think at 12am. Last time Note 7 preorder start around 10am.
I hope it is 12am this time though.... just my wish. Coz if 10am I have just landed in Hong Kong airport, will be troublesome to fight with you guys to grab 2 of the S8.

I'm very curious if s8 can tahan with moderate usage.
Looking forward with reviews.. Hopefully by end of the day ie 5pm still got 40++%
Those screen looks gorgeous yo..
I remember saw someone said the iris scanner works well with spec. That's gd. Nice
hows exynos unit power consumption compare to SD unit in the past? is it better or worse? sometimes the exynos unit is faster in processing power but compromise on the power consumption....

Yo do you still need to press the power button then unlock it via fingerprint or you can just place your finger in the scanner to unlock without pressing the power button?

Of course I can pay you the pre-order deposit first. How much is the amount for Note 7 for the pre-order? I think is RM500, balance to be fully pay when go collection?

info from Soyacincau site, only 4,000 units available from Samsung directly for the note 7 pre-order. Hopefully this time they can allocate more, say 10,000 units for Malaysia for the first batch.
you were not pre-order directly with Samsung Malaysia is it? I think there were various place you can get pre-order for note 7 last time - Samsung malaysia, Lazada, Senheng, Yes4G, etc.

Note 7 is a single model... This, however is split to 2...
The front looks gorgeous. If I were to upgrade, it'll be my 1st phablet sized phone. The thing that keeps me from being 100% sold on this phone is that I feel like samsung is holding up on things. Like they keep few things from this phone on purpose then go all out for next note series. Lol.
But most youtube reviews are positive. Even d akward FP scanner placement got a "maybe requires some getting used to" approval.

thought they said last time S7E only pre-order for 1 model only, the non-edge version is not on pre-order. Finger crossed they will bring both sizes in for the pre-order.
pray pray they start the pre-order on 12am.

Because you should use iris scanner most of the time.
follow Apple but still, this time grey is the best, come with little bit purple one thing I hate Samsung is they always like to use 2 different processor for different country = slower software update
2 diff processor because cdma for us market.
Snapdragon no longer the only choice. This is good.
from some review videos and demo during the unpacked event, looks like face recognition is the fastest.
for some users with other bluetooth gadgets like android wear's watch which are connected via bluetooth, you can actually set the connected device as trusted devices and there is no need to unlocked at all as long as the bluetooth device is connected. You can do this with your car stereo with bluetooth, xiao mi band, etc.
This post has been edited by Cynox: Mar 31 2017, 03:41 PM
Question is can the face recognition be abused? Can I unlock the phone with a photo?
haha... for me it is just a technical matter. Example: if you lost your S8 when you are out for lunch somewhere. Someone else might have stolen or pick up the phone left unattended. Most likely we are just worry whether our precious data inside will be used by others. In such typical situation, most likely the fellow will not have a photo of you to unlock your phone even if the phone can be unlocked with a photo.
anyway, we shall try it out after we get our S8.
btw, can the latest Samsung phones like S7E and Note 7 be hard-locked by owners? Meaning if one do not have the password or authentic way to unlock the phone, it will be locked forever even if you hard reset the device. I think latest Iphone has this anti-theft feature - correct me if I am wrong.

Not sure if can hard lock as u mentioned but if u are using norton anti-virus, there are options for u to lock the device if SIM is removed or changed and wipes all data after 10 failed unlock attempts.
The above 2 method can also be found in default phone setting except it allows 15 failed unlock attempts before it wipes your data.
With these at least your details and samsung pay especially are protected in a way the other person could not have access.

Qualcomm locked Samsung from being able to sell their own chipset in certain region due to immense 4g patents.
Qualcomm locked Samsung from being able to sell their own chipset in certain region due to immense 4g patents.
Or, Because Qualcomm filed the patent earlier than Exynos in certain region so Samsung had no choice but to follow suit, otherwise to follow lawsuit.
Same concept to why Xperia was not getting FP on Power button activated in USA (HP had the pattern) but the underlying hardware is identical (in fact just need to flash EU rom to activate them)
In the world of patent, its all about who gets in first and secure the entrance. Other that want to come must pay the toll fee or get sue. Otherwise, get lost.

Well as usual Malaysian or rather Asean variants will almost certainly received the Exynos version. Im not complaining because usually the Exynos version performs better.
Samsung Dex feel like Sony Ericsson livedock with further enhanced in software like optimised Microsoft office apps. Need further optimised for other common apps like chrome, video player and other.

No.. the phone have to scan your retina to unlock.
yes it can even using phone....take selfie and it can be open... ada di youtube...
maybe samsung can take another step for face recognition for example to scan the depth in the sampling photo...maybe it can be slow for the process but that is the way of the software engineer to think about it...heheheh
Not getting this though. Waiting for Note 8. I bet it would be better and smarter than S8 series and with S-Pen and hopefully wide & tele dual-lens tuned by Leica...haha!
Been eyeing the Tab S3 since the launch announcement till now still no official news.. Sigh, how ironic if the S8 and S8+ arrives first - which looks most likely the case now

That is true
Anyways, been waiting for a premium tab with the S-Pen so my wait goes on. That said, suddenly the second hand market for the S7 Edge is very attractive now

I'm waiting for the Tab S3 also but somehow Samsung My has been quiet bout it. Maybe they would announce a bundle discount by purchasing both?

the design s7 edge vs s8 is so huge different in design.
Doubt so. As TS said, the tab is not a flagship product, even the pre-order offers are less attractive.
It's the latest and greatest Samsung tablet considering not many great Android tabs are released nowadays, how is it not a flagship, in regards with tablets. Anyway, maybe the demand wouldnt be as high as the S8 but it would be perfect for them to have both the tab and S8 sold together in an attractive bundle. Tab S3 isnt really under the spotlight after the S8 announcement, but having it sold together with S8, that would be the best bet to have consumers take a good look at the Tab S3. I'm all in if such bundle existed with a good discount.

why would someone want a tab for? for ppl have s8 its good enough to be a phablet.
i am more expecting samsung to include the VR , gear 360 or dex or bundle with samsung watch

Why would they release one if theres no such demand? I commend them for having the guts to release a good tablet in 2017 still despite risking of having it failed. Tab S2 has been a good sell for them, maybe not in My, but you can have a check around that there's demand for a good Android tab still. Not as much as before but the demand is definitely there and no, not everyone wants an iPad.

I can't speak for everyone but for me, a tab is great for work, scribbling notes, viewing spreadsheets, etc. The extra screen estate is really useful.
The file management limitations of iOS makes an iPad not so suitable for work, especially when it comes to email attachments. I should know coz am typing this from my iPad Air 2
Anyways, super off topic liow. Back to the S8 and S8 Plus....

Would rather get a windows tablet or a ultrabook except if its 2k can consider anything higher its not worth because tablet value drop very fast.

from my observation there totally no high demand for tablet from samsung. My friend had a tablet its so nuisance that she end up not using it. It cant be a phone even it can make call. Everytime call need use earphones. Spen cannot dock into the tablet. You need carry separately.
Now interesting are the windows ultrabook or surface 5

You nailed it on your 2nd statement. File management on iOS is REALLY a b*atch to work with. I have an iPad Pro 256GB and all i do with such a massive storage is filling it up with my downloaded Spotify songs. Coz guess what, it sucks in handling other files. My previous Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition performed way better in file management than the the so-called Apple Pro 2016 flagship. It is that bad. I have it due to my company programs are on it, but other than that, a good Android tab is still really much needed.

Ya, I know. Using a Huawei Mediapad M3 for work now, it's less frustrating.
Anyways, back to the main issue. Some very nice shots here...

Your observation doesnt speak for the whole world sadly. You can google around on how the Tab S2 has been a good sell in some parts of developing countries, hence the decision and the guts for Samsung to release another version, even so, their latest is not really under-specced in nature. There's demand. I am only voicing out here out of spirit of discussion, not really wanting to argue on how somebody utilizes an Android tablet since there are gigantic phones being released every single month, so why would anyone need a tablet, rightt.. Maybe you are correct in a way that in Malaysia, such tablet isnt in great demand. I dont have any sale figures for Malaysia btw.

U have your point there. When i come on, my phones are kept away and use my Tab. Why? Because its much easier to view and also type on. Its much better to watch youtube and open facebook with. Btw, im typing this on my tab as I lay on my bed.

Actually all front black is correct choice, I much prefer front all black and only back others color.

Dual lens possible but Leica, haha! in dream only.
I think kinda obvious which is the better camera, no?
wow. for me s7 looks better.better dynamic range and brighter. except that s7 white balance isnt as good as s8.s8 white balance tend to be in cooler side.
fyi, dont need to wait until monday which pic belongs to which phone.download and view the exif.data.haha
Dual pixels with S7E is good enough but with dual lens, tele & wide lens are much appreciated to go into Note 8 later this year. Anyway, Leica might not be co-engineered with Samsung but I believe Samsung can do it if they want it badly.

desperate to ensure durability after the N7-kaboom situations. Therefore not much innovation except for the screen. The rest stay with proven technologies.

Haha, exactly.
The S8 looks brighter overall. Definitely an improved sensor.
from what sense that samsung/sony does not upgrade their camera?
S8 is their most important product after note 7 failure.
yeap, that why they make sure the s8 stunning but ppl keep focus on camera when no phone in the market as elegant and pack with so much awesome in one.
at least s8 stand out being special and above all competition not keep reuse iPhone design and same feature.
Yet so many YouTube n even website reviewers said is same as S7. Anyway I do find the S7e camera is very good and than the only closest competitor was LG V10. Great all supplied accessories is now black instead of white which I find simply an awful color - that is my personal opinion.

And yeah, black accessories is good instead of that awful white.

Too expensive. I rather wait Malaysia announce first
ya it super expensive.. but here in the uk samsung offer samsung upgrade programme.. can get new phone every year. You only have to pay les than £30 a month. I work here so dont have much choice but they give me a very good deal so just grab it.
Malaysia always offer cheaper than other country (if you do a conversion), here we have 20% VAT..

But not "truely" dual sim, it is a hybrid second slot - sim or microSD for the second slot.
Until these days, still don't understand why Samsung insist to not to put the 3rd slot specially for SD card only for their flagships, while this feature is available for their middle end phones....

First when you trying to make your phone smaller every mm is important. Forcing another tray will sacrifice alot other things.
Mid range phones are not as powerful and special like Samsung s series there no mid range with curve edge.
Do u know why they move the sim tray to top? because both curve edges already taken the side so 1more tray wanna put where? Bottom? Virtual tray?

with U Mobile able to do free roaming in Hong Kong and Singapore, i dun really need a second sim. On the other hand, having a 64gb as default storage may already satisfy my requirement. My current 64GB microSD in my Note 3 is only 50-60% used most of the time. Anyway, will throw in a 128GB microSD just for the sake of backup.

put more slot = ugly mar yet s8 don't have any place to put, except top as more slot might need to have deeper slot, else 2 separate slot on top

the roaming data quota follow your local data quota. So if P70 having 15GB, you will have 15GB for roaming. I think the video-on, music-on etc no applicable for roaming lah.

How much?
around RM400 i think for a pair of 128GB Sandisk microSD.

Waiting for china to be added into that list.
ya..need to connect to their preferred roaming network operator when on data roaming at selected destination...that time i upgraded my package to p98 before travelling, then moved back to p70 after coming back ... China is under U Data Roam 36 - Unlimited Data Roaming at RM36/day
i am also waiting for the price of s8+, if reasonable, then gonna replace my note 5..if not, then might wait for note 8 or consider p10 plus.. but i still like the photos taken by samsung more compare to other..
to be specific, it should be the legendary Galaxy S2 era since S3 accessories are not all black.
no idea for s2 as I didn't own it as for s3 I think they are all black, still got the cable and plug which are in black colour as for earphone no idea as it missing already

I thought S3 started the white cable and charger trend? My mum's note 2 accessories are all white
note 2 and note 3 are already white. Apple started the white trends previously are all black
Don't see what's the big deal of black or white? Quite common colours la. Even black phone also people make a big hoo hah. Really so easy to get excited meh?

A good price would be 3099 or 2999 for s8 , 3399 or 3499 for s8+
the estimate price is 3199 and 3699 respectively.... this is based on previous price(comparing UK/euro model and malaysia) alway around rm500 less... even same as apple and others flagship...
maybe this is maximum can go... better less than that...

i think maybe this time just 10% discount plus VR gear or dex... but if they throw 50% coupon for new 360 camera should be ok but the price must be cheap also...(current 360 cam is 1300 right... i think new cam maybe around 800...)

Hi guys, this might be my first Samsung phone. Correct me if I am wrong but for this pre order discount is only open for a few people first come first serve??
If I am right what should I do to get my order in? 10% is a lot of discount for a already expensive phone. Hope I can get the discount.

yes, it is true. You can check out at U Mobile web site. Only selected countries with specific telcos. I tested it myself at Singapore and Hong Kong. FOC in my billing.
this must protect properly s7e glass 1.3k imagine s8.
wow... 1.3k. I think more expensive than some car's windscreen. any protection plan to buy? Like insurance? Anyone bought this kind of insurance for their phone before?

Thanks for the info, din know Samsung has this. Will seriously consider to get this for the screen protection and extra 1 year warranty, actually not too bad for RM248.

what about service fee?
hope with this fee the phone price dont exceed 4k

if screen really kena cracked, service fee is RM100. So RM248 is for the insurance and extra 1 year warranty. If nothing happen, you pay RM248. If really got screen cracked, will need to fork out RM248 + Rm100. This is what i understand from that Samsung link, correct me if I am wrong.
Btw, just placed my order for UAG Metropolis case for S8+. So is there a good tempered glass screen protector for S7E previously? I assume it is hard to get tempered glass protection for the S8+ curved screen.

Screen replacement only first year..
One time only.. You pay 248 upfront.
If damaged See will replace it foc but you have to pay 100 as service fee
There was much talk previous Note7 owners could get some special offers ?? I don't know how they are going to identify these ? Those who bought directly from Samsung I am sure their ID is in their database. If there are indeed such offers how about those who bought from Courts, Yes and others during the pre order period ? It would be another problem by Samsung to confirm such buyers. Well it is possible it Samsung wishes to do it. Anyway had not heard of such special offers from US market till now.

when u sign into a note 7 they have record and when doing refund they did ask for email or they can just say show proof of payment of note 7 entitled special offer.
Haha. Ya wor. I overlooked the edges. According to latest rumor from Korea, they said Note 8 will come in Q4, after Samsung releasing their very first foldable smartphone Galaxy X in Q3.
Just the right timing to upgrade S7E, end of the year to NOTE 8

of cos Note 8 will be better than S8. Samsung even cant come out with better product after more than 6 months, jialat liao... I think they will upgrade the camera and battery for N8 at least...somemore with the Spen capability, no fight already

Well, Samsung Taiwan does have a special campaign to offer special treatment for the ex-Note 7 users if they want to pre-order S8. However, the offers are not yet revealed.

Still got hope what? Afterall, until now SME hasn't released any pre-order details yet. May be they are now in the middle of thinking what should they offer to the ex-Note 7 users. Who knows?

ya, meanwhile waiting its camera review from dxomark
have u tried the blind testing posted on LowYat.net a few days ago? i did it one by one, and 100% of what i picked, showed S8 photo > S7, though sporting same camera

yes I did, but only tried some only as it post too many photo at the end straight away download full resolution photo and see results
No response from Telco yet to offer a bundle? Expecting the cost is more than RM3k so seriously considering to get a package from telco for 2 year contract...

that is not even a blind test, the difference is obvious the one preserves the most detail and accuracy is S8
exciting, but a bit disappointed samsung does not adopt 2 sim trays + dedicated microSD slot like their Galaxy A 2017 series.
Agreed. The Xperia Z5 got it right the first time - two slots for SIM and one slot for microSD. It means you don't have to decide between storage and a roaming SIM when you're travelling.
Unfortunately, the later Xperia models and the Samsung phones have been going for the hybrid SIM/microSD slot. Disappointing but ah well, still better than a single SIM tray.
Seriously I am more attracted to coming Note8. However will pre order the S8+ ( if offers are attractive) and sell it off with Note8 arrival. I do hope Samsung will have additional offers for ex Note7 users.

It is purely my hobby as a smartphone enthusiast. Well I am not the only one here. I even had the underrated n many said expensive Oppo Rs9 plus . I must say critics simply don't know what they are saying without even testing it out. With even a SD653 processor it performs equally well as say V20, Mate9 series, S7e, OP3T, HTC U Ultra. Just because it has a SD653 chip doesn't make it poor. Yes I do agree it is comparatively more expensive. Most amazing is it's very fast app installation which shame most SD820, SD821 phones. The phone s super ultra smooth too. Many look down at SD650,652 chipset but I must say I had good time w them on MiMax, A9pro

One can always count on unbiased review from you.
Performance wise i think android has reached plateau.
Next step more to optimize battery performance. 6gb ram= bad battery 4k display= bad battery
To attract user to buy flagship -water resistance -dual camera setup -Good camera capability -infinity display
to be frank. I think spend good money on phone is very worthwhile. If you calculate the time you spend on it. Compared to ...other expensive hobby.
I started to like the idea of changing phone every year.

I am not a smartphone enthusiast like unker benny i rather spend that money on my farm for the fertizier and when i buy i make sure its the best value in price, features and performance.
Not every situation we need to test something to define its value because the pricetag is there.
Its just not justifiable to pay SD625 and 650 on an oppo and vivo because I got the redmi note 3 and Note 4 both also runs very smoothly on a SD625 and 650.
So i need to pay 1.7k to 2k vs 499 and 799 see for me it dont make sense. Why should i pay more when 499 and 799 are good enough for me.
I am willing to come out 4k for Samsung S8+ or note 8 because all the features, design and hardware packed in because i can see the price = value

Something that depreciate yearly is not consider worth while.

Frank speak, you don't play games. So outside all phone is very great nor-matter it is middle range or high-end because middle range power already enough for you.
Why paid more when the device from Oppo is highly over price and nothing special.

As said is my hobby. Price is immaterial to me. - is within my budget and I can afford it. I had paid premium averaging rm500 and above u for unavailable phones here - just to test eg recent Mi Mix I both 128 and 256gb models. Just as pricy iPhone 7+ , it now lies mainly unused these days as I simply don't like it vs Androids. But I will still buy the ip8 to test

My comment is reply to your comment on this sentence "I must say critics simply don't know what they are saying without even testing it out. Compared to expenaive hifi that you use 4 hours a week. Yea. I am surprise even wireless charging is not available in huawei and apple. Samsung have it in s6e 2 years ago. Now the million dollar question is.
S8 or s8plus. S8plus. Screen size is roughly 7% bigger and battery 17% bigger.
i mostly going for s8+
prefer bigger screen especially with infinity display it will look more amazing
I am also more a Note-series fan but my Note 3 really can't keep up with the recent custom ROM adopted from S7 and Note 7. Even taking a phone call will lag. So will get the S8+ first and if Note 8 offer much more, will switch back to Note 8 later this year.
yes, the position of the 3 "buttons" can be customised. But Samsung users are used to back button in the right.
My favorite is always back at right...As far as possible I will always choose it to be on the right if there is such a choice to select eg on all HW , LG, Oppo, Nexus, OP phones. To me is best natural position for me as I always use right index finger on phone while holding it on my left hand

I really hope someone can give a leak on the pricing. I have a friend working for samsung electronics as an engineer and he also dont know the pricing. so irritating la.
No. Problem is we dont buy phone based on performance. We buy them based on gimmick features branding support resale etc.
We dont buy them to run antutu or open 50 apps and then reopen 1st app.
Yes I don't buy based entirely on specs alone. But that's the trend with 90% of Android reviewers out there. Specs come first. Usability and bugs later. Worst is Youtube reviews. If the specs are top end, hype it first. Then they will do a 1 month/3 months/6 months/1 year later revisit talking about the same shit pretending they have been using the phone for that long. Skipped all the hidden bugs and issues. That's why I don't trust reviewers any more.
And what happened to the remaining 10% reviewers who are honest? They got bashed.

Exactly. I assume you are using your left ear to take the call too then. I can only use my left ear for phone conversation. Right ear always hear not so clear and natural, dun know why.

Smart consumer don't buy electronic only for their marketing but everything else because android anyone can copy.
For me 1st I buy is the engine then features then software because with all this in place custom ROM will help boost.
Like my car 3.2 I don't drive a 1.3 to hope it perform like 3.2. I have a 3.2 ready I choose when I want to use it
got good offer? Heard quite a few youtuber promoting this dbrand in the S8 review. Check out Dbrand web site yesterday night but no sure whether i want some sticker on the gorgeous S8 body.

i have an insider telling me about the price. but it's still at initial discussion and far from confirm so i'm not gonna reveal here yet because want to make my record remains at 100%.
so far I've been correct when giving out leak price for few models in the past such as s7e, note7, htc10, htc u ultra...
I'll surely let u guys know when my 'friend' is 99% confirms with the info he provides.

Ive been askin around and searching whether the microSD slot in the S8/+ supports the UHS-II bus speed card. Hopefully it does, this is one spec that most reviewers have missed out.
i have an insider telling me about the price. but it's still at initial discussion and far from confirm so i'm not gonna reveal here yet because want to make my record remains at 100%.

Can tell us how high is the chance this phone will cost more then 3100k???
They sure rugi a lot last year with the note problem. Only way to redeem the lost is make this s8 below 3k or just same price with the current s7e. If near 4K the bye bye.

but u cant take out the fact that the MYR depreciate to 4.45 now... lol.... the best scenario is they sell at same price as last year.... should be below 3.5k for the non plus unit.... of course the SEA market is still very big market for them....
Last year rm3099 when ringgit is rm3.50 vs 1 usd. You guess.

My hope is fading after reading your comments. Looks like I will end up buying a s7e...

If S8/+ is something you've been eyeing on, have a little bit of patience and get it eventually. But not that it's a bad idea really to get the S7e imo since the price would be cheaper.
for pre orders, got any limited units? or need to spam click?
Quite sure it will be limited. For Note 7, I remember it was about 5000 from Samsung and another 4-5000 to Courts, Yes n others. All sold out I recall within half a day
Can you just tell us the estimate?? please. like the range price.

okeyla. but this one is not confirm ya. They are still in the initial stage of discussion. normally 2 or 3 days before pre-order starts only they finalize the price.

hmmm gs8 seems okay
but s8+ seems slightly expensive but that my expectation price.
thanks Benny! time to finally open a paypal for this

ahhh okok. still slightly higher than expected price. i was thinking 1999 for S8 and 3499 for S8+. but they should have maintained the price like s7edge was 3199 when i bought it.

But this round, Samsung promises adequate stock for everyone. Hopes this will prevent scalping.

My view is kind of different.
S8+ is understandable since most people will choose bigger size, Samsung sure want to gain the benefit the most from this part, but S8 is slightly expensive. I thought it should be RM2999-3099.

With MYR so horribly weak now at average MR 4.3 to US$1 vs say 3.5 last year, the indicative prices are still OK RM 3099 is last year S7 price - don't expect the S8 be same with our weak ringgit However Samsung could ( hopefully) discard the weakened ringgit in its pricing? Let's hope at least a 10% discount plus some freebies !

Ya, I am awared of it. But still, deep down in my heart I still hope Samsung will be generous to the Malaysia market... Anyway, I guess this is the biggest jump ever in history?
S7 (2699) - S8 (3299)
s7 Edge (3099) - S8+ (3599)
RM600 & RM500 differences respectively.

Increase is close to currency differences vs last year ??

fair pricing if this is the real deal. at least not as expensive as iPhone 7/+ launch. but of course if could get a little bit of discount for those who pre-order would be better.

The thing is, my informer is also not sure yet. The teams are still discussing. On contrary to what most people said here in regards to Samsung Malaysia wants to gain more profit, actually SME wants the price to be as lower as it can to make the phone more 'reachable' to mass, but there are lots of factor and a principal they have to oblige thus they cant finalize yet.

My guess was 3499 for S8 plus haha. And 10% off for preorder.

Thanks for sharing. Would the price for s8 be confirmed b4 the 9th???

Personally Im not that interested with S8 but I really want to see what it is capable of with the 20 shader core G71 GPU. Huawei Kirin 960 already beat Samsung to A73 + G71 but when I looked at the history of Kirin SOC, seem like their GPU always sucks because they are using way less shader core. I was about to buy a Mate 8 since it is on sale right now but when I looked at the GPU, it was about on par with my S6E despite using the newer Mali T880. Exynos 7420 has 8 shader core but slower T760 but Huawei decided with 4 shader core but faster T880.

Very nice affordable price. Much better than the 3499 i was expecting for S8
It really is. If you ask me S7E vs P10 Plus, I will still choose S7E. Unless one is really careless and is afraid of the edge display no reason to choose P10 plus really.

Kirin 960 is quite good. A73 vs modified A72. A73 is exactly what's inside snapdragon 835 and exynos 8895. The only downside is the gpu shader core is only 8. Although it's running newer G71, it's a bit slower than S7e exynos 8890 with 12 shader cores T880. The thing about A73 is sustained performance vs peak performance with A72.
S8 is a different beast with either 835 or 8895. It's built on 10nm which will guarantee 30% faster than A72, compared to Kirin 960 which is on 16nm, which is limiting the gain between 10-15%.

The price drop makes S7 and S7 Edge very good value proposition. You no longer need to buy Oneplus 3T or Huawei type of phones to save money.
P10 to me looks pretty much like P9. After 1 year they didn't improve anything on the design and bezels look huge for 2017 phone. I totally skip this phone, in fact I like the P9 better.
This year any screen that doesn't look like S8 and G6 will look out of date.

Kirin 960 is just a bit faster than Oxynos 8890 but much more expensive (P10 plus vs S7E).

Although Huawei P10 is a decent phone, I still think it's too expensive. Should not be 2499.
If irenic's leaked price is true, then P10 Plus is not appealing at all.
However mainstream people may differ. A few people asked me regarding what phone to buy, I can say most people want to avoid the Samsung edge display. They are scared of breaking it...So it may backfire. And the Leica brand marketing strategy is really effective. Everyone is talking about it.
