First ...came the influx of DCs

Now comes the influx of multinational companies seeking regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur (KL) , according to Knight Frank.

It is Ok if u do not like Cyberjaya, but do not have to go all the ways to say all DC are imported rubbish... etc

What is the Agenda of doing that ? Prefer Malaysia to fail badly ?

Sounds logical.

WB co got one time share price was shorted down to 1sen ( US ) , but deemed as technical errors . Not taken as an indicator that WB Co was doing badly.

Most Developers should be happy with influx of DCs n FDI :-

PETALING JAYA: The upcoming financial reporting season for the third quarter of 2024 (3Q24) is expected to see many property developers recording strong earnings on the back of solid sales registered during that period.

RHB Investment Bank analyst Loong Kok Wen noted that the second half of the year (2H24) tended to be stronger for most real estate companies.

“This is because most players would ramp up their launches in the second half of the year,” she told StarBiz.

“Adding to the mix is Google’s US$2bil data centre, which will be located in EBP and is expected to generate 27,000 jobs –which is a winning formula. This project, spanning 6,500 acres, should drive SimeProp’s revenue and earnings for the next 12-15 years,” he said.

UOB Kay Hian (UOBKH) Research, in a recent report, also said it expects most developers under its coverage to record a stronger 3Q24, year-on-year.

CIMB Securities, in a recent report, said developers with strategic landbank in Iskandar Puteri (Johor) had enjoyed brisk sales for their recent launches, as connectivity improves.

BTW , 27,000 jobs would be created by Google , surely not 25 jobs ...like many MAC operatives claimed .

Boss, the data center only 19.8 hectare which equivalent to approx 49 acres. To be frank data center memang generally not creating much job opportunities compare to conventional manufacturing plant. (I expected approx 1k++ only in this case)

Some good explanation can be sources from chatgpt as well as following :

Given that Google’s data center in Elmina City, Shah Alam is planned to cover 49 acres, the job opportunities in its operational phase can be quite extensive. Here’s a tailored breakdown considering the scale, location, and industry standards for a data center of this magnitude:

Estimated Job Opportunities for the 49-Acre Data Center in Elmina City

1. Direct, On-Site Jobs:

IT & Data Center Technicians: 100-180

Network Engineers/System Administrators: 40-60

Facilities Management (Cooling, Power Systems, Electrical Maintenance): 60-100

Security Personnel: 40-60

Administrative & Support Staff: 30-40

Management & Operations Leadership: 20-30

Total Direct Jobs: Approximately 290-470 permanent on-site positions.

2. Indirect Job Opportunities:

Data centers of this scale typically create significant indirect employment through local suppliers, logistics services, external maintenance, and support (e.g., catering, waste management, and transportation). This could generate an additional 500-800 indirect jobs in the surrounding areas, especially as Elmina City continues to develop as a tech and business hub.

3. Construction Phase:

During the construction and setup phase, the project may require around 1,000-1,500 temporary construction jobs, covering engineers, architects, electricians, project managers, and various contractors.

Factors to Consider:

High Automation: Google’s data centers often utilize advanced automation and AI to optimize efficiency, which may reduce the number of on-site operational staff but increase the need for highly skilled technical personnel.

Focus on Sustainability: As Google is committed to sustainable operations, additional staff may be dedicated to energy management, sustainability initiatives, and compliance with green energy standards.

Local Impact: The data center in Elmina City will likely drive economic growth in the region, supporting Cyberjaya and the greater Kuala Lumpur area as a tech hub. This can indirectly boost job creation in supporting sectors like real estate, retail, and services.
Summary

For the 49-acre data center in Elmina City, you can expect around 800-1,200 total job opportunities during its operational phase (including direct and indirect jobs). The facility will be a significant driver of local employment, leveraging Malaysia's skilled workforce and further establishing the region as a key player in the digital economy.

*
Operational phase ...starting point. and would spread else where to Johor , not just limited to the physical site alone. Think out of the Box..DC is just the starting point only..27,000 jobs possible created through DC/AI eco sytems later ....But without DC, then perhaps nothing would be created.

50 millions content creators/jobs worldwide , where their products are housed in DCs , but these people are not working inside DCs .

He also added that Google’s data centres will play a crucial role under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), which targets the creation of 3,000 smart factories by 2030.

U do not know what comes after that. .The source 27,000 jobs is from Google . They know better what they are doing.

Decade-long stagnant wages, job mis-match pushing youth into more debt.

Graduate starting salaries have barely moved over the past decade.

In 2021, 60 per cent of new graduates received salaries below RM2,000 for their first job, compared to 61 per cent in 2010.

While the number of individuals with higher education continues to rise, the growth of skilled jobs has stagnated since 2002.

Currently, around 80 per cent of graduates from local universities come from B40 families, and 40 per cent of these students rely on PTPTN loans.

(Kuala Lumpur, 28th) The booming data center market in Malaysia has attracted a large influx of foreign investment. Projects have sprung up like mushrooms after a rain and the market is thriving. However, there is an imbalance between talent resources and the speed of development. Major data center companies are unable to hire people. In order to rush, operators are willing to poach talents with high salaries, offering a monthly salary of nearly RM20,000 to recruit electronic and electrical engineers!

From Nanyang

“We are a platform provider, not a data centre owner. So, if you think about it, all our US$6.5 billion will be allocated to building cloud facilities, not data centres. Whereas other companies are talking about billions of investments, including the cost to build a data centre. This really shows the magnitude of our investment commitment in Malaysia,” he says.

Oracle Malaysia managing director Fitri Abdullah highlights that the group intends to create infrastructure that supports the digital transformation of businesses in Southeast Asia.

Technology - An Exciting Year Ahead

Reported by Public Bank

Publish date: Mon, 06 Jan 2025

Despite various trade concerns over the heightening trade tension, the year of 2025 is touted to be a time of technology breakthrough, which will see many opportunities to invest, innovate and develop. We believe Artificial Intelligence (AI) remains at the forefront of key topics as did cybersecurity, cloud computing, and robotics. We also gather that some local ATE makers have started receiving more inquiries in the last 2 months, although the outlook visibility remains short. In the local scene, data centre play continues to be in the limelight.

Malaysia's data centre set to boom.

Malaysia is poised for significant data centre growth this year, fueled by substantial investments from major technology companies. According to the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, Malaysia, which is sitting at the forefront of the region's data centre growth, has seen total investments of RM99bn in the last 2 years with another RM149bn in the pipeline. Currently, Malaysia has 54 operational data centres with a live IT capacity of 504.8MW. Johor leads in IT capacity, followed by the Klang Valley, and with Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan and Kedah emerging as upcoming data centre locations. It is also worth noting that Johor will be the first state to hit 1GW when the supply under-construction and committed become operational in the future. According to Knight Frank Malaysia's report, Malaysia has 61 upcoming new data centres offering IT capacity of 1,313MW. In Asia-Pacific, current data centre capacity exceeds 10,500MW and is expected to more than double to 24,800MW by 2028, spurred by increasing adoption of cloud computing and AI. Singapore currently has more than 70 data centres with a total capacity of 1.4GW. But Malaysian government's recent approval of a total data centre capacity of 4GW makes the country Asean's top data centre hub. Meanwhile, McKinsey & Co estimates that the global demand for data centre capacity could rise at an annual rate of between 19% and 22% from 2023 to 2030 to reach annual demand of 171GW and 219GW globally. We see positive inflows for the various industries in Malaysia following a sharp increase in data centre investments. Data centres are a critical component in powering the growing digital economy, and Malaysia can specialize in data services, particularly those related to generative AI, which have applications across various industries like healthcare and services, leading to improved service quality and innovative solutions. This will help the country to broaden beyond semiconductor and gain from the technology transfer from big tech companies. The data centre engineering and facilities management solution industry in Malaysia grew from RM3.9bn in 2020 to RM8.3bn in 2023, at a CAGR of 28.5%. Moving forward, Providence estimates that the data centre engineering and facilities management solution industry in Malaysia will grow from RM10.7bn in 2024 to RM17.7bn in 2026, registering a CAGR of 28.6%

You seems confused .. and lot of ppl also confused

PKNS Land is not Cyberjaya .. it is Cybervalley, Sepang but some creative marketing by PKNS they managed to dupe ppl to think they are ‘Cyberjaya’ ..

The land in CV is leasehold and owned mostly by Selangor State gov. They even have their own postcode different from Cyberjaya.
Few years ago they even managed to put their 63300 Sepang to Cyberjaya post office (so that PKNS/selangor state gov can sell their properties easier)

While Cyberjaya is freehold and owned by Setia Haruman and Cyberview which is under Ministry of Finance (federal)

The project is under Selangor state gov so thats why Cyber Valley is chosen and not real Cyberjaya building you mentioned
*
Quite strange , isn't it ..?

Cyberjaya is under Selangor, but Selangor Govt seldom " participates " in its activities . More like Cyberjaya is treated under Putrajaya.

Now we have Johor -Singapore team up...but Cyberjaya is generally " regarded" as outside Selangor Government controls.

DC , Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation n MCMC all are housed in Cyberjaya but are not under Selangor State Controls.

Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC) is based in Shah Alam ? Seems we are at super high end of Technology ?

Not sure what makes you think I'm confused. I'm very clear on the land part and the border between cyberjaya and cyber valley.

I'm just curious why they need to take up new land instead of quickly setup and occupy existing building in cyberjaya.

Cyberjaya is still Selangor. No reason they have to use cv land. Just like the first ic design in puchong, it's not even Selangor govt building.

We need a Selangor -Cyberjaya free trade zone maybe blush.gif

Well MSC initiatives and Cyberjaya is Tun M brainchild so he parked it directly under Federal government ..

Selangor which last time under then the opposition came up with Selangor Science Park which is rebranded to Cyber Valley

So you have two quite similar but competing project

Cyber Valley.... Rebranded ?

Yep

The Selangor gov changed their postcode 63300 from Sepang to Cyberjaya post office just 1-2 years ago

But the land title cannot lie 🤭
*
U see Johor now becomes more efficient ..

Land owners there hit jackpots recently :-

Iskandar Investment Bhd (IIB), landowner of the 2,230-acre Medini Iskandar Malaysia in Johor, is said to be issuing offer letters to buyers in Medini with an option to convert their properties, which are currently under a private lease scheme (PLS), to freehold at a premium, according to several sources.

A letter from IIB to one of the buyers sighted by The Edge, stated: “As part of our continued commitment in enhancing Medini’s appeal and fostering growth within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), we are pleased to inform you that freehold development is now possible in Medini.”
