Seems Roland Microcube is being mentioned quite frequently lately in this forum. Very interesting practise amp. A worthy opponent is the Vox DA5 or DA15.

Maybe any kind soul can post their views, or those in KL area can audition and compare the amps and post their opinions. Im in KK and no shops that I know possess any (to the best of my knowledge) and would very much like to read your opinions.

thank you kindly smile.gif

Vox DA5 lists for RM200 more than the Microcube.
that should help make your mind up tongue.gif

soundwise, you have to try and see.

portability sake, Microcube wins.
its obviously smaller, and uses AA batteries.
DA5 uses C sized.

I really like the Roland Microcube. I plug in my acoustic guitar and it sounds nice. smile.gif Of course it couldn't beat those really high end amps but the sound is pretty decent.

I tested the DA-5 today at CK Music. Sticker price? Rm650.

But WOW! I'm DAMN Impressed by the quality!

The Microcube's distortion channels..... as good as they are.... still sounds quite digital. The DA-5 has a much more "Natural" sounding tone.... and is able to get quite a high level of gain. Has lots of amp settings to play with and you can play a wide array of music too.
The rest of the effects are pretty standard.... but the flange is quite nice.

Yes.... with that amount of cash... you CAN buy a much bigger and powerful amp. BUT.... the portability and quality of sound cannot be ignored.

If I were to choose between the Microcube and DA-5 if I had the cash? I'd go for the DA-5!

Eh? How come the price difference between DA5 and DA15 is so small?

If i m not mistaken, DA-5 is portable, while DA-15 doesnt have the portability --> uses only adapter..

I ve got the DA-5...

wat i can say is... killer tone for the price... its very loud for bedroom practice too... Even after selling my AD30 vt, i still find myself going back to a Vox amp by getting th DA-5..

my only gripe would be usage of C batteries.. as u know those little twerps are very expensive... rclxub.gif

To help ur decision of DA-5 vs Microcube:

- Microcube (?) ---> compromise tone, maximum portability
- Roland DA-5 (?) ---> Killer tone, compromise abit of portability

If u are bringing it to places with plug point, the battery thing shudnt be a problem..

i noticed one thing about the microcube.
its better using guitars with single coils.

i think its also partly due to all my guitars being equipped with hot humbuckers.

for the microcube i wouldnt say tone is compromised, as it is being limited by its 5" speaker.
the DA-5 of cos has a 6.5" speaker.
plug it in direct and the microcube will be very decent.
its R-Fier sound thru the speaker also is pretty decent, again cant comment on the clean sounds much cos of my hot humbuckers tongue.gif

blink.gif whoah that guy sure is good...

Point taken, took back my words... however, he seems to be using only clean.. I didnt quite like the distortion when i tested it though...

I was really blown away by the tone of DA-5 when i tested it and immediately take one home with me...

I have a white microcube bought from bentley last year at RM380. Very impressed with the build and tones. Excellent choice as a practise amp. You can save up a bit more for something else.

what kind of cable to use if want to connect the MC directly into soundcard LINE-IN?

Try Bentley, guitar collection or PM " Satchman" from this forum, he sells VOX amps.
