You can use inverter but make sure the wattage is bigger than your PSU. Price depend on the wattage and brand. This is not energy efficient IMHO.
OR But M2ATX that cost around RM400. This piece of hardware can control intelligently the on/off of the carputer and can able to withstand the cranking of the engine. This is energy efficient since it doesn't convert any energy. The M3ATX is around the corner. For more info, type M2ATX and google away. OR Put a laptop and play with it for few month before investing it. This carputer hobby is time-consuming, money-consuming and wife-consuming, it the end you will gain a car that talks back to you and left you with another car that are better looking than you. Yup, and when ignition aka turning the key, it will automatically start your carputer. Or buy a 'Start Engine' button for more coolness. Actually I still searching for 1. Like this one; http://www.zerotohundred.com/newforums/int...button-kit.html But damn expensive, RM140+. Someone wanna bulk?

QUOTE The power supply can get, but the mainboard that support it kinda hard nowadays, furthermore those mainboards the processors are integrated ones like VIA processors, can't really get performance out of those. Nolah, mine use AMD Athlon XP processor, m-ATX board with 1GB. M2ATX can be use like normal PSU. It can support until P4 and Core2Duo. Just don't overload the wattage. It has normal power socket same as our home-use PSU, just the input of the power isn't the same; from car's battery. |

Before that, Selamat Hari Aidilfitri to all Muslim reader.
QUOTE OMG, very2 brilliant...bro,how much for all mod??sure it's pretty expensive rite?? Mine just cost around RM2000-RM3000. Most of the money gone to buying decent LCD. The PC hardware salvage from my store which is now quite full with old hardware. M2ATX cost around RM 380 to RM 400+ depend on where you brought it. Mine locally. QUOTE get a roof mounted lcd screen 15inch for rear and 2 visor screen for front viewing Roof mount 15 inch is too much. Mine is 15 inch LCD with retractable legs (mod from camera tripod) and for front row, I got sunvisor and in-dash LCD, both 7 inch. This post has been edited by jacksonloh0: Oct 11 2007, 09:13 AM |

IMHO, another battery increase weight, more wiring and cost. Putting inverter result in noise, the 'jet sound'. When you rev the car, it's like sending a jet flying. Cool but annoying after a while. Anyway, a DC to DC is more energy efficient, my two cents though.
If want to try first but don't want to invest too much, go for the inverter first. Just make sure everything wired correctly. And safety first, eye on the road. |
