I'm in quite in a dilemma here. I'm looking to quit my full time job to do Grab. I just cant stand the job anymore, no increment, no promotion eventhough I'm one of the top performer. Clear favouritism in promotion. Been very stress up these past months and been applying other full time jobs but no response.
I'm looking to do Grabcar. been hearing good review on them. some of my colleagues are also doing it and they're claim they are doing fairly well in terms of extra income. A colleagues friend seems is now earning up to 7K a month just by doing grab. thats not even half of what im earning now. My current income is very low for a 30 year old and seems all my contribution towards the team seem to be ignored.

im still at the same level 2 years ago . no progression, less increment even bonus this year wasnt good. but i'm just really exhausted working for people who dont deserve my contribution. so many ideas and suggestions just ignored. moreover my team chemistry has also gone. seems everyone dont bother, backstabbing, no one talks to each other genuinely.

i still have another freelance job that ive been doing & i thought to take a break for while . Do grab and the freelance job while looking for other prospects elsewhere. however what im concern is working in my current company has traumatised me in working for another company.the current one seems like im in school. too many restrictions and regulations. bosses also ignore reasons, suggestion and ideas from the employees.

so now if i do take the plunge, i want to start grabcar before my notice ends so i can get heads up on doing grab. need advice.

I'm in the same situation like urs, put in so much effort, pay like small peanut, at the end nobody cares, promotion will never be u, there's always reason for not promoting u. Typical Malaysia company.

Don't quit your job just to drive Grab. There is no guaranty of income for long term.

well i can say now freaking alot of graddriver. so the competition is there.

if i were u, i take some days break, to chill my self. totally chill. and register for grab, as parttime 1st. just register only.

when back from holiday, i will do work at a slower phase and more focus on grab and other opportunity. so wont be so frustated at the current job as i wont pour in so much effort in it. just hagging for the monthly salary. XD

That's gross before deducting your expenses. Factoring in the time that you put in, it's not worth it. If you really want to quit, I suggest you analyze your strength, sellable skill and go self employ.

The first 9 posts already urge you NOT to quit, and I too: KEEP yr current full time job. Do part time, Grab, Grub or Uber, whatever.

UNLESS you can SECURE another full time job, just grit yr teeth n persevere bro. shakehead.gif

guys i really appreciate the advise! really thankful. and im gona take it. i've just registered for grab.
another thing i forgot to mention was office is relocating to another place which ups my travel time and expenses. on top of that , i cant bear taking so much of effort to travel to go to a dead end job. people my age are either married, or with a stable career earning double or even triple. thats why i'm so frustrated and depressed.
but i'll try to toughen it out and see.

Well...

1) I don't think doing Grab car gonna launch you any further in career.

2) Are you scared to take the plunge or are you being too loyal to the company? If you already know your top performance not gonna reward you in the company, why stay? If you think your skill is very much better benefit another company, just jump.

3) Speaking of applying job, are you expect too high and therefore no response? or just at the wrong time for your industry now?

4) Pick up some skill for your job. Go for training or such. That will add value to your resume.

1-true, but im looking to take a break becoz the job has literally eaten my soul up, i actually feel less adequate, smart then before. so i need a break. i've already start applying for jobs, and at least when i quit i can do this part time and as well have time to do a short course (enrolling soon).

2-in a way yes. i ve gained so much knowledge of the operations and the team see myself as a go to person when there is issues, which helps my credibility in the team. but seems upper management refuse to see that instead constantly pick on minor mistakes. but then again almost 90% of my contribution to the team seems to be ignored.

3-well i dont expect to high , but im going with market value + experience. what im really frustrated is that fresh grads who come in are able to get almost close to my salary and higher level position. grads who has no working experience and even non-related degree to the work. on top of that they're are getting additional tasks., where clearly will propel them even higher in quickly.

4-i have done trainings, from IT, english, communications, . im not sure whether its wrong time but clearly seems luck is not on my side.

if u have extra savings... take the plunge, for mean time do grab full time but also lookout for new employer. Once you're employed full time with better pay, turn your grab to part time.

taking some risk, provided you can sustain the period, to do something different before coming back again... is worthwhile sometimes.

Go ahead with your decision to drive grab mate.

You can also take up some non stressful jobs and drive grab part time and see how it goes from there.

Even if the pay is not that high, if you can get a pay 'somewhere around there' just do it. Satisfaction and health is important.

Good luck mate.

good luck /k bad choice you made, my friend quit his full time carrier to do gc or uber, one day his car break down, and car enter workshop for 1 month, the whole month u can literally eat sand..

Just my advice, don't do gc or uber for fulltime, when accident happens you have no funds.

All grab drivers must have car that is quite new at most 3 yrs old. thats what one of the grab drivers told me. He said the company prefer new cars coz its for customer satisfaction. besides, new car has less mechanical problems.
*
I know what is your statement but can we predict the future? "What IF" accident happens, my friends experience this before, GC or Uber does not provide any compensation if your car is malfunction or in workshop, they will tell you that you can earn money again one u start driving. So it just my advice whether or not to think it as a full timer, risk is always there. mechanism we can predict.

The thing about grab is... given their current business model, and still losing money, it will come to a point where they cannot keep overpaying the drivers and under-charging the customer.

Anyway, definitely not for long term la...

Was thinking of doing grab/uber part time last year. I have 2 cars....one registered 2008 and another one 2006. Both cannot use for grab/uber cos not meet requirement. I cant be buying a new car just to drive grab/uber....crazy. So drop the idea and sell my kidney

It depends on your salary range. If you have net 4K above now, don't quit, do part time first. It is not easy as expected to be full time driver, somemore once it becomes habit, it is difficult to get other job n you are any career advancement u might get..
