If they weere complaining that Persians were portrayed wrongly, that is the most laughable whining i have ever heard. They nitpick on that small iissue, when the biggest issue of all left unattended: The Battle of Thermopylae itself! Spartan wear nothing but bronze helmets at the battle, why didnt complain about that in the movie? The Battle was more brutally described in the archives of history than what portrayed in the movie, why no complains? Have we as human beings, become so engrossed with the more fickle side of things , that we lose sight of the bigger goals? And WTF is with that Pro-American bullcrap? You can easily say that the Persians now represent American-invading armies of Iraq, while the Spartan represents the liberating Iraqi, how's that? Why must every medium be propagandized into something political? Why cant these people enjoy the movie for what it is actually is: A medium of story telling and entertainment, without looking for hidden messages and subcounscious brainwashings?
Sorry for getting off a bit there, but i get pissed off when people read too much into what supposed to be a pre-summer popcorn flick, and refuse to watch it on that ridiculous grounds. Those ranting were also directed towards the people you mentioned, Zio, not to you. Kudos to you to report this, im surprised these people could still tie in politic with such a simple action flick.

Yeah, I remember this almost ruined my breakfast when my wife called me at work and told me how the Iranians are reacting.
Sickens me, really - I mean, I understand everyone has a right to be upset about something or other, but it's a freakin movie? What next? PETA coming up and complaining that the Ewoks are derogatory towards bears?

It's a movie based on a retelling of history, adapted and modernized by the pages of Frank Miller's work in 300 The Graphic Novel. The author takes his own liberties when describing what's Persian and what's Greek. Take it as that, simple. In fact, modern Persians and Greeks would be grateful that people are intrigued to know the retelling of their ancient history, rather than it remained within the dust-laden confines of a forgotten section in a library. Sure, it is hyper-realized, it is stylized , and it is changed, it is a freaking ADAPTATION of history retold. It has gone through time, nobody but the real participants of the battle would really know what happened there. All we have to rely on are scriptures and stories retold, and stories retold have the effect being exaggerated and altered to suit the context of the storyteller and the period of time it's being retold. Not a surprise that modern storytellers like Frank Miller tells this story as it is now in "300", im sure his intentions are for the audience to remember the main gist of the battle and the reasons why it is fought. It's sad that the audience nowadays are more readily tie things to politics and nitpicking small details than reflecting on the real message the movie wants to put across.

I got my "300" as a birthday present from my buddy... he bought it in Kinokuniya... and they are having a 25% discount off...
Anyway... I've read the graphic novel, and it seems the movie has more depth compare to the graphic novel...

Of course the movie has a little more depth. It's been stretched to fill the 2 hour slot - whereas the graphic novel admittedly is a slim volume.
On the flip side Sin City the movie managed to condense 3-4 volumes of the graphic novels into one movie, and THAT is an impressive feat.

Well... with Sin City 2 coming in and it will be "A Dame to Kill For" story... did you know that Rachel Weisz is going to be star as Ava?
On another note... and it's sad that we never get a chance to watch it in our own Malaysian shores...
Zack Snyder (director of 300) was given greenlight to direct Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon's Watchmen... a teaser clip was shown in the newly 300 extended trailer...

QUOTE(Lord_Ashe @ Mar 14 2007, 03:05 PM) A Watchmen teaser? Holy cow! My pants are officially peed on now. It was actually a test shot done by Snyder... and Warner Bros were impress by that few seconds clip... with over USD 70++ box-office for 300, he was given that project straight. Snyder wanted to bring the cast of 300 in the project... and he's hoping casting Gerard Butler (King Leonidas) as The Comedian... If you want to see the screen, here's a sneak pic (taken from IGN) of Rorschach picking up the smiley.
