I will be travelling to Fujian Province, China for a week & would want to have access Internet access (including FB, Gmail, Whatsapp etc) during this trip.
I’ve considered local sim cards (China Unicom), but seems too much hassle with need to register, China firewall & other restrictions.
So I’m considering Celcom International Roaming 7-Day 3-in-1 Pass (uses China Mobile). Anyone knows whether I can access FB, Gmail, Whatsapp etc once in China?
Thanks.

Based on my previous visit to China in Dec 2016, FB and Google services are blocked by default, but strangely the notification can come in though. Whatsapp isn't blocked at all, no need VPN for it.

QUOTE(calibre2001 @ Mar 23 2017, 11:30 AM) What is international sim card? I believe is mentioned Flexiroam. Very straight thing is I heard my friend say if you use Flexiroam in China, it won't block your youtube and Facebook although you use China network. Don't know how Flexiroam can do it..

If u r roaming from Celcom, it'll work for all internet including Facebook, YouTube, etc... cause it's based on Malaysia network but bridging to china telco. However if u r using local Unicom or China mobile, u won't be able to access them.

QUOTE(GeeFatt @ Apr 18 2017, 02:37 PM) i think its easier to use the prepaid cards that u can find at china airport. Thanks but the problem is there's a new ruling where need a local ID to activate local SIM cards. That is why I am looking for an alternative solution.

Not necessary. Head over to China mobile outlet, not agent, not dealer. Present your passport. That's it.

I think still yes, because you are not using the local China network.
