I came across a friend who told me that her salary for the month of FEB is being calculated based on the formula below:

February Salary:
Gross Pay / 26 working days X no of working days

Due to this, her salary is RM500 less than her basic pay!!! She did consult the accounts but the answer given is b'coz she's still under probation period.

Is this reasonable? What's the right way to calculate?

usually the company will use that method when the employee take unpaid leave or when the employee just join the company and didnt work for a full month..for example if your friend join the company on 2nd Feb, then the company will use that method

sode-no-shirayuki,

Public holidays for the month of February should be calculated as a working day and therefore your friend should be paid. Assuming your friend's company took 2 days compulsory leave off for the CNY festivities, those 2 days leave will be considered unpaid leave for her since she's not entitled annual leave as yet.

What is in her offer letter ? I thought it should be per month pay unless your friend took unpaid leave during probation period.

I think the offer letter with the term and conditions of your employment will help in this case. biggrin.gif

In her offer letter, it says that she will be paid monthly...

and even she took unpaid leaves during the month, i think it's still not fair! coz it's divided by 26 working days... n then X no of working days...

The number of working day in Feb is much lesser compared to other months... vmad.gif

I don't think February has 26 working days, you may inform her to raise this issue to the HR dep.

Check her monthly payroll first.

Most likely, the poster forgot to exclude Sunday or non-working Saturday.

She needs to check with HR and finance dept on the calculation. Most companies use 22 days in the calculation. By the way, is she working in local or Taiwanese company ?

Once ur friend hv taken unpaid leave, normally HR will count by day due to her situation... anyway it is subjected to change based on the management
my previous experience is before i join the company I hv told my supervisor I need to go on leave on the month end... then he discuss with HR and deduct from my FUTURE leave... so I still got paid with full amount. smile.gif

Alot company is using 26 working days or 24 working days to calculate for unpaid leave or non-full working month( start or leave job)

I guess since your friends is under probation, so CNY consider unpaid leave thus the calculation is like that.
