I never used IDE before..
Just VIM and tons of plugins, GDB etc etc.
Only time when I used IDE like VS, is when I finished writing the code, then, copy paste the code into a VS project, build, then submit the VS project folder for assignment.
If you are just using IDE as a text editor and then press F6, then you are using a horribly slow and bloated text editor. Might as well just use something else.
All are just tools.
Programmer good or bad isn't determined by the tools they use.
I think the professor is just trying to say, try to learn to use some command line tools since batches and scripts are very powerful and widely used.
bad programmers use IDEs
