In my Company situation: System Engineer - Maintain, Operation, Ensure all the Company PC, Network, Video Conference, Phone Call under code Condition (Software & Hardware) System Analyst - Work related with end user or customer and Software Engineer, Collect user functional spec and come out with Functional Document, more on the project basis. this only general summary, if you want to know more detail i guess it also depend on the company |

Even from the replies it's quite clear that different companies have different definitions for each role. Better to ask the HR of company you're applying to what their definition is.

System analyst can be hardware or software.
According to what JasonLaw said that is a system analyst for software development, that person have to map the business process into system process. Which will need to draw alot of flow chart, activity diagram & other diagrams. As I read ur post, you're comparing system analyst and system engineer I think you're asking about the role toward hardware side. |

These days, relying on a position title to understand a jobs responsibilities is almost useless and misleading.
Today you have positions like sales executive which for some companies would refer to a senior management position, in others, a door to door salesman. To clear up any confusion, just look at the job description. If this is lacking, then the company you are applying for is obviously unprofessional. This lack of detail alone, will force unnecessary work on their own HR or who ever is hiring. So essentially, the difference is roles between an analyst and an engineer are somewhat blurred in today's market. As others have said, engineer will tend to be more technical but this is not exclusively so. |
