i share some example, make sure u comment okie?
tongue.gif

for example,
team a launch a very quick break from their own penalty box (eg, clear the ball from team b corner kick) and team a have 4 vs 2 team b players. the ball went out for a throw in (for team a).

if there is no break in the game, team a might/could quickly throw the ball back in and still have the chance of outnumbering the team b defense.

but if there is a break, the coach or manager can shout for time out and re-group his defense...
tongue.gif

abuse ?

comments and senarios please
thanks....

Timeouts? Hell no! They will only slow down the game and make it more technical. I want to watch a free flowing football match, not a chess match.

no need la. look at NBA. each out of bound ball or time out need to stop time. from total 48 minutes + HT rest can drag to more than 2 hours. not include overtime. currently, soccer game already 2 hours include HT rest. if got time out, 4 hours per game not impossible wooo... well, at least my opinion also. need to change many rules if want to apply time out. maybe unlimited subs.
*
Yeah, i second that... might as well introduced unlimited subs or maybe team A and team B so that can switch just like defence and offence...

QUOTE(zeist @ Mar 6 2007, 08:30 PM)
Wasting time, the field is too big for them to walk up and down.

Run? Wasting stamina, LOL!
*
emm..... it is a timeout just walk, beside american football have no problem, but then again they do have a VERY LARGE squad compared to football so they can field team A nad team B

QUOTE(RtP|DEV @ Mar 6 2007, 09:16 PM)
No need for time out. But i think football take a good look to Yank's Footy refereeing system. The manager can challenge referee's decision. The referee then will review the decision by watching replay.Day by day the referee become stupid & stupider.Take a good look at Primera Liga, the referee is a joke.
*
Absolutely correct about the ref being more and more stupid these days... not so sure about the challenge thing though... do you really think the ref will change his mind even if it is wrong, hell even now when the fourth official is using videos to monitor the game the ref still makes stupid mistakes... i'm not so sure that he can even see his own mistakes.... whistling.gif

all in all, timeout in football is rubbish..just rubbish.... the game is very good already as it is now...

That's the biggest Michael Bollocks of Germany to the game. I wouldnt wanna watch anything so "american" because they have 4 halves to just complete their aim of carrying a ball, running into each other, and to either run past a line or kick the ball over some bars. Roberto Carlos may like this idea (remember WC06 vs France)

American football have it, and so does the NBA. Will it make a difference to the sport or will it only contribute to the breaking of the game flow ?

NBA teams find it absolutely critical cos its helps the team to regroup in the last few minutes or seconds of the match and helps to counter the opposition or even find a dynamic route thru their defence.

How will it help football? Can it help when ure team is 1-0 down and everyone needs a kick up their backsides to get back on track? Or would it be detrimental to your side, especially when your team plays free flowing football?
*
i think when your team is 1-0 down, sure they get a virtual kick up their backsides. don't want time out, players and managers will abuse it. you can bring the ball to penalty area and call time out to strategize how to best maneuver in the box. kills the actions of the game.

QUOTE(hokuan @ Mar 6 2007, 09:43 PM)
No time out..But one thing of american football that we can follow..That's the player are taken off field for 10 or 15 min..I think they have that if the player are to rough..And believe it,american footballers are much more polite than soccer player..
*
when soccer players get too rough, they get yellow and red cards. so it's a bigger punishment than in america...

no la. managers cannot call for timeout if their team in defense mode. offense only like NBA. well, it doesn't matter rite? time out will break the flow of the game.

if want time out, use it when the ball is out of the pitch, 30 seconds to discuss + walk off from the pitch & only once for each half. brows.gif so the managers need to use is wisely

hehe, just my opinion only. i'm sure no one will agree with me.

IF they ever use time-out, they should make the time-out very short and including the time players take to walk to dugout. otherwise, all the players slowly walk only and make the game really boring.

When you think about American sports you think about the creation of opportunities for sponsors to show commercials all the time. You also think about the word "entertainment". Football may indeed be moving in that direction, and I dread the day it comes. The reason for so many stoppages in American sports is so that sponsors get more airtime. Also, the sport has been packaged as an entertainment event. Look at the All-Star games were players enter the arena accompanied by lights, music and sometimes pyro. Then think about the performances by recording artistes. Look at the cheerleaders, the mascots, etc. Everything points towards entertainment. It is no longer just about the sport. It is all about attracting as many fans as possible and milking as much money from the sponsors as you can.
