Hi all,

would appreciate your advice for which model that i should buy for the 5.1 sound system at my living room if possible. Mainly for movies and gaming.
Must have HDMI or optical in, and prefer those with own stand as i am unable to mount the back speakers on the wall as the back of my living room is the stairs.
And try not to recommend model more than RM 1500 (max stretch i can go is RM2k)

did some research on my own and found the following model
Sony HT-RT3 (sadly the back speakers are without stands)
LG LHB755W (the closest match to my criteria, any thought from anyone?)
Philips B5 (Really like this...but too expensive)

if you have other recommendation, that would greatly help. And please let me where can i get it

Thank you!

Thank you both for ur suggestions. Just wondering, avr is the receiver right? The core of a home theater setup. So correct me if I'm wrong, it is recommended that i should buy avr and speakers separately?

Noob in this sort setup, just thought of something decent and reliable and easy to setup within 2k. If cant get a 5.1, 4.1 also will do. Worse come to worse have to settle with a 2.1 or soundbar then...haha laugh.gif

If you have tight budget, secondhand avr should be ok, 5.1 is enough. Bookshelf speakers are good to begin. I'd suggest you to prioritize a decent sub as a good one will result in overall sound quality for your system. As for speakers, you can always upgrade later

Soundbar is expensive with small sound effect..avr and separate speaker is always the best..if 2k its pretty hard to get decent setup at least 2.5k like this http://www.sony.com.my/electronics/speakers/ss-cs3 ..so a pair of floorstander is RM1200 u can get it from authorized Sony outlet and a Yamaha rxv381 RM1200 with speaker cable below RM10 per meter..this setup is pretty decent because without the subwoofer the floorstander able to give u nice bass and u can add on later like a pair of bookshelf Sony cs5 http://www.sony.com.my/electronics/speakers/ss-cs5 this price is for a pair.....avr with a pair floorstander should sound good to u the Sony have pretty good review u can google for it...cheap subwoofer still will sound crap..if can increased to 2.5k the Sony cs3 floorstander is a best buy with nice sound.u can bought the floorstander first later save few hundred more for avr .if u cant go higher than 2k u have no choice http://www.mudah.my/PIONEER+S+ES21+HOME+CI...Ew-45084601.htm this is one of the option or this http://www.mudah.my/PIONEER+HTP+074+DTS+HD...Ew-48868002.htm http://www.mudah.my/PIONEER+TODOROKI+S+RS7...Ew-49938367.htm ...all in one speaker will look good and cheap but still will sound like your tv with bigger sound output..separate avr and speakers will sound oomph abit u will get the detail 😋..

Bro, can I ask, actually I'm looking at Denon too. Currently I'm using rx-v375 which doesn't has 4k passthru. So wondering if Denon has better sounding compare to yamaha. Do you know where got sell Denon with good price as well?

But for 4k passthru u still need other stuff like player that capable for it if not just waste but current av receiver no matter what brand supporting 4k so no problem...why u wanna change from yamaha to denon bro not satisfied with it ?? denon is much more expensive than yamaha..low end denon still using normal audyssey..denon x1300w is RM2000 and yamaha rxv381 is RM13xx..still depends on your usage bro if u into music marantz is more musical while for movie yamaha and denon pretty much same kinda balance for music and movie..if for music definitely av receiver not a choice at all.if u need av receiver around 2k below yamaha is best bang of buck...if your current yamaha 375 is still going strong upgrade your speaker bro u can get better sound from it u can upgrade avr later..movie or music which is your choice bro??

Thanks for the advice. Currently im using yamaha ns-555 and ns444 for my 5.1 setup. Because of now the oled lg price is so affortable for normal human like me, i got myself 1. Im changing my media box as well himedia q10 pro. So thinking of upgrading the receiver too that supports 4k pass thru. Later on im planning xbox 1s so that i can play blue ray 4k hdr or dobly vision as well. I dont want to go for 7.1 or 7.2.1 cause i dont want to mess my living hall with wires. Maybe next time around when i move into new home i will reconceal all the wires into the wall during renovation. As for now im happy to keep my setup simple and easy.

Glad to hear that you enjoying your HT! It's a simple and quality setup you got there and I can see it was nicely setup even though space was limited and good job there mate. Seems like second stage upgrade is imminent for you soon haha... me too upgraditis bugs always around me too! Good choice though for SR6011 but if can save up a bit and get SR7011 and svs sub will be the ideal choice... you won't regret owning it. Go slow and steady mate, surely you be able to have the setup you always wanted to have in due time. And yes, sifus like Sonerin, Ben and others are always here to guide us... many thanks! thumbup.gif

Can someone enlighten me? During surround 5.1 calibration using the provided mic, how does the active subwoofer sound? I felt it sound too soft and low compare to the rest of the speakers. I set crossover frequency 80 and vollume at 50% at the back of the subwoofer, from the receiver i select bypass. Hmm wondering if this correct.
Anyone know can share what is the best crossover frequency for front L, front R, center, surroud L and surround R that should set on the receiver?

Oh, I didn't know so much difference on the pricing... my bad! Actually I'm planning to get a new avr too and I was encouraged to go for highest range between A2060 & A3060 because it uses top end component, 64bit accuracy, 3D calibration, support 11.2 ch... you won't regret as advised... I'm not too sure about price difference between the 2 yammy avrs but anyhow I've decided to save up for A3060 now.

Haha thanks. Btw both yamaha a d denon are about the same :/
*
I told u earlier that both are almost same 😋 Yamaha price should be lesser and u should bought the yammy rxv481 the price differences with denon x1300 is very near and more power but no problem u already use Yamaha another five years try denon..keep changing so that u can review other brand too hehe😋

*
😋 hehe yup the price differences is very high between Marantz sr6011 and sr7011..but if your budget tight I saw showroom model for Marantz sr7009 and sr7010 I think the price around RM5xxx still best bang of buck....yammy a2060 and a3060 have more power than Marantz but I think will cost more no idea about current price for yammy but nice avr too brother Sonerin using a3060 if not mistaken..still the debate go on audysey or ypao 😋many said audysey room correction is dam good.... http://www.stylelaser.com.my/category/av-receiver/20

As for Yammy, A2060 ard 6k & A3060 ard 7.4k... difference of 1.4k! Sr7011 is more expensive ard 7.9k! I have decided to go for A3060 in due time! Sifu Sonerin was using A3050 IIRC the last time but not sure whether he has upgrade now... As I know, he made some upgrade, dual PB13U now! rclxm9.gif

I can't even afford 1... sigh! sweat.gif

I see, I thought we can go hunting together survey2 and demo2 hehe! I think Stylelaser can accept trade in, therefore it's easier and cheaper after trade in! Try to get newer avr models that support HDR... don't think so for sr7009!

Can i chip in with a question here? sweat.gif

I am going to buy an AVR but on a tight budget hence cant invest in any speakers or sub yet. i see most AVR got RCA speaker input. Can i use my existing logitec PC speakers with RCA input to connect to the AVR? sweat.gif
