ya everyone agrees that ibm looks ugly. it depends on how a person thinks. if you want to go for looks, i think samsung and toshiba are quite nice. but as for me, looks dosen't matter. as long as the thingy does its job and runs stable, its fine for me. value for $$$ matters lots too
acer is the last choice based on various people from multiple sources. so far, ppl who are doing serious work with their laptop has never recommended acer before. i only see students using acer because of the rebate, usually they have no knowledge of what they are buying. so, their opinion dosen't weigh much
as for toshiba, if you see the price lists u will understand. furthermore, it is a closed machine, unlike ibm. in an ibm, when the warranty is over, u can take the machine apart and modify/upgrade what you like. if so happens the hdd konk (as 1 of the forumers say), just change it yourself, DIY. but if the same thing happens to your toshiba, u gotta send it in. the only thing u can change is the ram. and toshiba is not as tough as ibm, e.g. left in car... u know....
all these are IMHO. opinions vary from person to person.

oh..thats pretty cool. i didnt really know all that crap

me n00b!

how about compaq though? i bought mine coz when i compared prices, compaq was cheaper than ibm..
and i heard acer after sales service is kinda bad..but the price is comparable to that of compaq though.
but i think if i wanna upgrade i might be looking into ibm now. the hardiness is qute a factor

should have done more research before i bought my compaq
