hey thanks mate. erm..so only ibm is it? i think the ibm range not so "pretty" if u know what i mean. after all, this is a lappy for a girl tongue.gif

so based on your earlier post, acer is the last choice. why yeah? and i have to agree that compaq tends to heat up quite a bit sad.gif

but why do you say that toshiba no value for money? a lot of people vouch for toshiba afaik
*
ya everyone agrees that ibm looks ugly. it depends on how a person thinks. if you want to go for looks, i think samsung and toshiba are quite nice. but as for me, looks dosen't matter. as long as the thingy does its job and runs stable, its fine for me. value for $$$ matters lots too biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

acer is the last choice based on various people from multiple sources. so far, ppl who are doing serious work with their laptop has never recommended acer before. i only see students using acer because of the rebate, usually they have no knowledge of what they are buying. so, their opinion dosen't weigh much shakehead.gif

as for toshiba, if you see the price lists u will understand. furthermore, it is a closed machine, unlike ibm. in an ibm, when the warranty is over, u can take the machine apart and modify/upgrade what you like. if so happens the hdd konk (as 1 of the forumers say), just change it yourself, DIY. but if the same thing happens to your toshiba, u gotta send it in. the only thing u can change is the ram. and toshiba is not as tough as ibm, e.g. left in car... u know.... whistling.gif

all these are IMHO. opinions vary from person to person. smile.gif

oh..thats pretty cool. i didnt really know all that crap tongue.gif me n00b! tongue.gif

how about compaq though? i bought mine coz when i compared prices, compaq was cheaper than ibm..

and i heard acer after sales service is kinda bad..but the price is comparable to that of compaq though.

but i think if i wanna upgrade i might be looking into ibm now. the hardiness is qute a factor tongue.gif should have done more research before i bought my compaq tongue.gif

guys u know what? last time ppl complaint about dell stuffs like how they complaint about HP and Acer.

but now, dell laptops seems to have quite a few good comments u know.... whistling.gif whistling.gif

this is confined to their laptops only. Don't ever, in your life, get a dell desktop tongue.gif and don't use it also, unless your company buys it or you borrow your friend's computer. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

There is no level 5 at lyp, only level4 is the highest.

different context:

super macgyver: Ground, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4(top floor)
____ pds_disi : Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Level 5(top floor)

the suppliers are normally located at the higher floors but they do not normally give lower prices.

Budget: actually it's a gift from other ppl, so can say is an unlimited budget (coz im allowed to choose, hehe)but of course not TOO EXPENSIVE la..

now at the moment it's only this la... might add in some more stuff again...after my exam.... 4 more days! estimate the cost for me please... thanks! which brand of laptop that's good? is Sony bad? i heard from my relatives that Sony is not that good...dunno wo...

oh yeah btw, not too ugly please... & thanks!
*
please dun say no budget... if no budget, the laptop will cost you 5 digits sweat.gif it is better if you ask the giver to give you the cash and then u buy what you like. OR, ask the giver to state the budget so that nobody will become blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif at the end of the day. get what i mean? smile.gif

is not that sony is not good, sony lacks value for $$$$$$$$ tongue.gif

what do u mean by  blush.gif  blush.gif ????
erm the giver says whatever laptop i choose also can wo... asked him what if too expensive he says no worries notworthy.gif ~~~
*
blush.gif blush.gif means pai seh.... smile.gif if after you choose then he never thought of coming out with so much money then how? blush.gif

if no budget then go IBM Z series or T series, or any high end Samsung laptops drool.gif or tablet PC (rm10k and above). tongue.gif

IBM --> http://www-604.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...686018425008262
Samsung: http://www.samsung.com/my/products/notebookpc/index.asp

from my experience, anybody who say like this are not being frank, even if its your parents, boyfriend girlfriend, or very close fren. Its a lot of cash there u know.. biggrin.gif U'd better ask the person to be frank. The giver might not have enough knowledge to give a budget too. He might not know that rm15k laptops exist in this world. thumbup.gif

To avoid any unecessary problems, it is still better to ask the person to give you the $$ and you buy yourself. IF not, ask the person to buy for you. 'You buy I pay' is not a very good thing to do when comes to buying rigs u know.... sweat.gif

hi... stumbled upon this - for all who insist for a dell
disclaimer: i am not a anti-dell person tongue.gif

QUOTE
Still analysts are not convinced that Dell's problems are solely the result of defective parts or not being able convince customers to upgrade to more expensive products.

"We think Dell has been too focused on perfecting its existing model instead of adapting it to a changing environment," Moors & Cabot analyst Cindy Shaw said in an investor newsletter.

the rig above looks good thumbup.gif but better if got reviews biggrin.gif

btw, 1 thing which i like to remark is, ppl often get 'deceived' by the 'gigahertz race' (refer to hardware QnA thread). the higher the CPU clock, the faster the comp. This is not always true. Actually it really depends on what you use the laptop for.

You will also notice that by increasing the size of your RAM/Memory, there is a drastic change in terms of speed. e.g. in general:

the speed of 1.6Ghz @ 512MB DDR2 < 1.8Ghz @ 256MB DDR2

the reason is because most processes in general do not make full use of the processor but the ram. i.e. the ram is the limiting factor in speed when laptops are concern.

harddisks are non-remarkable when come to laptops because u actually can't do much about it till when sata laptop harddisks becomes widely available.

Note: this is from experience, i can't offer any benchmarking for this because i don't have the time to do this. Any1 who do benchmarking on this, perhaps you would like to verify this statement smile.gif
