KTM should draw up user-friendly schedules
WITH reference to Thomas Foo’s comments, “KTM should sell tickets in advance” (The Star, March 13), I would like share our experience.
Firstly, I would like to compliment the ETS provided by KTM. My wife travels to Bukit Mertajam by KTM ETS about six times a year. She has been using KTM for the last five years, and the additional service to the northern states make travelling more pleasant compared to using the express train. The ETS trains are clean, seats are comfortable, air-conditioning is good and they are generally on time.
Online ticketing/sale of tickets, however, is an area KTM should seriously look into to make improvements. KTM’s 30-day open booking cycle is a headache for us too as the schedules are frequently revised and not finalised.
My wife always buys her ticket online for her trip to Bukit Mertajam where she usually stays for two weeks. If the date of the return journey does not fall within the 30-day cycle, then she will not be able to buy the ticket in advance. She will then have to wait until the return date falls within the next 30-day cycle. Even then, she may still be unable to buy her return ticket because KTM is unable to confirm the ETS schedule.
She has gone through times when the online sale of tickets opened less than 20 days prior to her return journey. It is important for her to plan her journey because when she is in Bukit Mertajam, she has no access to the Internet and mobile coverage at her mother’s place is not good.
She has no problem when she buys KTM tickets online but from our experience, it is better to buy the tickets separately.
The system is not user-friendly especially when the return date you wish to book is not listed yet.
