Dear Sifus,
Good day to you.
Would like to know if there is any tax from Malaysia Government on oversea share capital gain and dividend?

For example:-
1) If I bought shares from Singapore or USA, and have capital gain, do we have to pay tax to Malaysia Government?

2) If I receive dividend from oversea shares, do we have to pay tax to Malaysia Government?

I know shares from Bursa are not subject to Malaysia tax for capital gain and second tier dividend.
But what about oversea shares?

Thanks for your guideline and advice.

1. SG and US no capital gain tax for non US citizen

2. Might subject to witholding tax from country of dividend origin. (SG 0%, US 30%)

Both no need to declare MY tax as long as the investment are QUOTED SHARES.

Has anyone had issues bringing their profits back before? I've made a tidy sum and am planning to purchase a car but am worried if it will attract scrutiny.

As long as you can prove non taxable income with trading invoice and dividend tax invoice, should be no problem.

If dont have then good luck... whistling.gif

Is that all it takes to avoid trouble if I were to be audited?

I've generated enough funds through derivatives rather than stocks directly. Anyone knows the tax status of derivatives?

Derivatives is tax free too for MY as long as you trade from a legal broker. Forex however is not legal in MY.
