Hi! Planning to have a baby next year..
Is it okay to not give a Chinese name for our child as my husband's family are not traditional Chinese Malaysians and he doesn't speak any Chinese dialect as well. We would like to follow the westernized culture of naming, First Name + Middlename + Surname or 2 First Names + Surname
Is this possible?

This will be our first baby so i'm not really sure how it works hahaha. Thanks for the help! This post has been edited by silteoh: Mar 14 2017, 10:16 AM

Just get ready for shit-storm from traditional parents ya..... i faced that problem. So ask your parents for a Chinese name that they like, and try to work that into the middle name. At first we didn't want a Chinese name cos we don't speak Mandarin and have no idea what the given name will mean, or if it has potential for 'bullying', teasing or ridicule in the future when they go to school. After months of tension between my parents and us, we finally settled on a Chinese name they are happy with, based on the English middle name. so... good luck

Err... my daughter do not have a chinese name in her MyKid... no issue with that... by the way I am not Christian too... she has a first and middle name... followed by the surname... however my wife did give my daughter a Chinese name for our older relatives to call her coz our daugther's name is a bit hard to pronounce by older generations... heck... even her kindergarten teacher also didn't call her name correctly hahaha...

Why not just First Name + Surname? Easy.. Coz some may confuse Should i call u: Diana Willis Willis Ng Ng Diana Willis Ng Willis Diana
As a parent, i dont wana give unnecessary stress or others making fun of my kid's name just becoz i wana be unique from others. Well, thats my 2 cents.
