What can Robi do?
COOL CONVERSATION, PURE ENTERTAINMENT!

Conversation
ROBI understands basic English and Mandarin, with a speech recognition board that helps him express intelligently in various situations. His LED eyes light up when speaking, and a physical sensor detects human presence so ROBI will look at you when talking. Amazing interactivity.

Dance and Sing
Entertainment indeed! ROBI can dance & sing as well as do special actions like kick a ball, wave a flag. He’s truly hip and happening with a servomotor that optimises ROBI’s movements.

TV Control
ROBI can be your TV remote, with an in-built Infrared remote transmitter powering the TV and volume at your command!

Simple to Operate
No complicated external software here. ROBI is designed to be easily operable – user-friendly for children & adults alike!

It was an outdated robot. The original Japan released Robi at 2012. There is also a cheaper Robi BUT it was released as plastic model kit not a functional robot.

uhh this one never read properly tongue.gif
24.90 is only 1st issue.
the other 69 are rm67.40 on subscription.

so 24.90 + (69 x 67.40) = RM4675.50.

i think only the 1st copy is RM24.90. so it's in the high 4k for 70 issues.

The first issue comes with a promotion price of RM24.9. Subsequent issues are RM74.9 each, excluding the list below:
Issue 43 (CPU): RM137.0
Issue 62 (Physical sensor): RM99.0
Issue 63 (Physical sensor): RM99.0

1st... too expensive for a robot using this kind of material
2nd... outdated mostly no more update for it
3rd... afraid of missing issues, especially partworks like this cannot be miss anything.

I think that why most of us in the forum won't start this partworks so far...
Anyway if got lot of money n was robot lover, sure will start build it. hmm.gif

now we all have the verdict... too expensive for a robot, my mom ask me to buy it and i ask her why... her reply was epic, 'ask the robot to do house work of course.' yeah if it can do more than walking and talking and act cute, i might consider robi.... else its just waste of time....

There wasn't a lot of choice to begin with. I remember there was the Hummer, then Mclaren F1 car and a ship. In between there was a Honda bike. But they abandoned that 6 issues later. I was a victim of that. So no more part series for me. puke.gif

TT Here is the robot which come with Wifi, internet and bluetooth. Japan just launched an new similar robot like Robi but got wifi or internet access which cost JPY200, 000(RM7859) and a complete one sold at JPY230,000(RM9037). That mean we going wait another 3~4 years when it reach here sad.gif

http://mainichi.jp/.../articles/20170222/p2a/00m/0na/015000c

What it can do is identify the family and friends (up to 12 people) using the camera, conversations via DoCoMo's cloud AI, messages, and net connections. Besides the AC adapter is included, it runs even on a standalone with an internal 5800 mAh battery. In addition to the VAIO main board plus a general-purpose single board computer Raspberry Pi 3, WiFi communication and Bluetooth.....Wow

>4.5K to get something without any warranty and free after sale services is big problem (Refer from TW and HK collectors reported issues)

4.5K, you can get Google home or Amazon tap (voice recognition) + Smart home hub (like logitech harmony to infrared control your TV) + 50" Smart TV ( to watch kpop dancing via youtube).

I was offered 30% off and allowed to complete in half the time. biggrin.gif BUT that means spending a lot more within that same period!

RM 5.5k over 70 weeks is RM 78 per week.
RM 3.5k over 35 weeks is RM 100 per week.

That comes to about RM 400 per month instead of RM 300. sad.gif

So how do you find the investment on Robi ? Is it worth it ?
Because i found that robi can only do certain thing which i find it cute and bubbly but paying for over like 5K for few action seem not justify the money plus i predict after sometime it would in the shelf collecting dust unless robi have weekly or monthly firmware upgrade that do little more then currently stock robi action can.... laugh.gif

Still holding on to my grudge, though i love to have Robi.... sweat.gif

I can't say yes or no because it depends on priority.

If you have nothing else better to spend on and don't mind 70 weeks wait (and actually enjoy the process), and not forgetting being one who appreciates the technology - go ahead.

I for one, do have better things to spend on but I have no recommendation of any better alternative.

As one who spends time to build stuff, I don't like to wait 70 weeks to build a robot. tongue.gif Too long, really too long.

The parts can be easily obtain from external website like taobao ....

They already selling complete set of the Chinese and Japanese version, you can either get the whole set or just simple buy the chosen set to have full dummy set assemble while buy the PCBA and voice Recognition copied locally (Unless u know how to speak Japanese) and i think the assembly parts are universal built regardless on any region you buy from....

For the shipment is costly a bit but it will be well paid price for those who cant wait till all 70 parts comes in.... i believe most of us wants only the Robi not the magazine collection... rclxms.gif

I think that big piece of plate PCBA just screw....the most challenging comes when you assemble the brain and the servo hmm.gif

I calculated if include all the special issue, it will cost RM 5,365.40. Online subscription will cost RM 4,828.20. I'm more interested with the 30% off, wonder if there is any lubang for that.

I just want the parts and servos, and plan to replace the electronics with my own board.
