Received the adv today from my mailbox, the provider is Metrofonwww.metrofon.com.my), which currently offer 2Mbps download/upload for RM60 per month only (for limited condos only)

Has anyone try their services?

Aiyo, using the 512Kbits speed with a price of RM60, is cheaper than the screemyx RM66 package la.

By the way, where is it available, i think this is a branch from Penang Optic Line provider.

Well, other than those mentioned, another important factor is the service availability in our areas.

Using it , its Optics / metroFon / PenangFon , all the same , just in different location

BT is limited to 30kb currently (according to the technical person, he say they are undergoing maintenance to upgrade the line) so might be slow... have to wait few more weeks and see

Yes but most of the them new ISPs are only available in condos, so normal house users won't be able to subscribe anyway.

I noticed they are using a 202.73.x.x IP and I did a ping from my home Streamyx connection, the latency was about 190ms which would be bad for gaming even for local servers because most game servers in Malaysia are hosted using TMNet's connection.

Yea, they wont do any good in gaming , but I not really have a problem with that as I can play LAN game with it , yeah meaning all those who subscribe is actually connected together (and can also share file) smile.gif now everyday play LAN game warcraft tongue.gif

For those who want to play online games like WoW, CS etc ,better ask to see how first , as I still dont know (just apply few weeks ago) and try some Malaysia hosted CS , lag like hell doh.gif

its very good for the first time i subscribed last year... easily can reach 100+ for downloads...but as months passes by.. their performance dropped sharply.. and i've emailed them numerous times bout it..and they said that they're running out of bandwidth supplied by the other ISP which could be either NTT Japan or Jaring MY ... they did say they're trying to negotiate something to work things out for both sides..

LETS HOPE SO !

Although I admit the monthly fee is cheap, the equipments and deposit are freaking expensive!

* Fiber Optic (FTTH)
2 Mbps Upload/Download Unlimited Internet Access
Installation fee of RM120
Monthly fee of RM60
Fiber Modem RM450
Deposit RM180 for 3 months
Minimum subscription of 1 year

Dont have the FTTH , only ETTH available

ETTH dont have to buy the Fiber Modem smile.gif As the routing already done on your apartment/condo ,etc , so yeah, this service only available on apartments/condo etc , not single housing area

Which area you are? I'm also having a same issue from the pass few weeks especially for the BT download. But these few days is quite OK for me. Some time can reach up to 50KBps. Maybe you should make a call to their support center and ask them to check your connection. Maybe is their crappy cable caused the issue.. hmm.gif

practically killing myself here, when it comes to local gaming..

Wow is pretty stable, but lately i just get sudden "disconnected from serveR" and i just reconnect.

I dont know, cos i am really satisfied wif the streaming and stuff like p2p, but local gaming scene... i'd kinda get frustrated lately.

If Streamyx and Maxis wired broadband can give you free trial...the sky will fall down. I'm talking about wired broadband not wireless eh... sweat.gif However, Maxis HSDPA give you 30 days trial. One of my friend tried it but return to them after 30 days just for fun brows.gif . The speed is so so for web browsing and it is totally out for BT and Game.

If you really need to test out the speed, you can go to your condo management office and try out. Normally they do supply one connection to management office for testing purpose. I did it last time in my condo management office before I handle my application to them. thumbup.gif

So far have been 2 months using the connection, most of the time I can download file at 200KB++ For BT, if there is someone from their network, even I can archive 500KB++!! Most of the time is about 30KB, Ok la...

p.s. KB not kb... cheers.gif

I am staying in crimson now, and my only comment to metrofon is Poor. Poor in term of connection (always time out and very slow) and customer service (no one answering to technical complaint even stated it is 24/7).

If you are thinking of swithching from Streamyx to Metrofon, i would advise you not! It is not worth to pay so much to them (High installation fee and Deposit) for this of company. I am a victim of this poor ISP provider. Try imagine in contract with such company when your GPRS Edge connection is even faster?

Sorry to disappoint MetroFon critics, but I'm currently using MetroFon in Happy Apartment, Section 17, PJ. My fastest BT download speed was last week at 2.0 MB per second and most of the time the speed remains above 30kbps. I was the only user that time.

Now I'm sharing with 7 other people with most of them also downloading, my average BT speed is 20kbps. My internet connection was never disconnected at all, but I'll be honest that in raining times surfing the net is slower than usual.

I think MetroFon's internet speed is based on area, it's better for you all to check with friends, family, or neighbours to see if how good or bad MetroFon can be. So far I'm happy to switch from TM Nut's Streamyx to MetroFon.

Just my 2 cents.

There is someone hosted a BT forum in their network. Believe it or not I'm getting 2MB (which is equal to 16Mbps) download speed from that forum. For International, I'm getting about 30~40Kbps in average. But if one the seeder is from MetroFon or Penangfon, the download speed will go up to 2MBps as well....

another 2 cents from Metrofon user

I think the key criterion in evaluating an ISP is

Are they consistent?

Even some Streamyx people are getting extreme speeds and no problems (I am one of them) and some of them are even unthrottled...

Some ppl on the other hand can't even get half of their connection.

So if a lot of people are having problems with their Metrofon, then it's hard to conclude that they are good.

Don't get me wrong, I was actually recommending Metrofon to some of my clients but looks like that recommendation has to go out of the window now. It's a sad day when all ISPs in the country throttle p2p.

It is not... What i know is they pull in a fiber into your condo which minimum can supply up to 100M back to their core network...I'm not about the wow to us but I know there are customer playing dota which connected to flying spaghetti monster has no issue about it. It was shown in their tech forum.
