Rather than focusing on the big subtle concepts.
I'd advice you to go to the basic practical things first like the 8 precepts (or the noble 8 fold path).
Most of the time people get entrapped in flowery words of description and a lot of imagination. Like Tibetan/Mahayana/everything else, when it doesn't really contribute much in term of practicality. It's like trying to discuss advanced mathematics without having learning addition or subtraction first.
So don't go the other way, start from the basic first, and take those basic very seriously and APPLY to your daily life. Soon you will find that it works and it is true and subsequently you up your practice as it goes on.
Always remember and avoid this basic fatal mistake/principle.
Teachings of the Buddha, or of any other religion, is like a knife used to cut away foolishness, greed, fear and suffering, it is never meant to be used to cut others (criticize others etc, other than healthy discussion of course).
So reflect most of the teachings inward to yourself and you'll understand more.
Feel free to ama if you want to know more. Again, start from the basic first, and don't follow Buddhism teachings blindly, have a healthy level of skepticism in Buddha's teaching is even encouraged by Buddha himself back then.
