Hi Guys and Gal,

Very nice thread here.

I m actually planning to go to Taiwan on middle of march(Next Month).

Is there any good travel agency you guys can recommend. Its for 2 person , 5 days 4 nights or 6 days 5 nights.

Most important point is that it must include the day tour to Doraemon Theme Park.

My budget is rm4k+ for 2 person, is it enough for everything?

Is changing Rm to USD really better in terms of the exchange rate than me going over to taiwan to convert it from Rm to NT.

Sorry many noob question smile.gif

Just read page 1. it's already stated that changing US$ 1st.

Also the this thread is more for those on DIY...Taiwan is a very easy place to go & no travel agent needed. Haha probably due to my past bad experiences wth travel agents.. I hate travel packages

I wanna try travel agent 1st as this is my 1st time to taiwan. I m half banana, some chinese word i can't read and pronounce hehehe.

Next trip i will go without agent. smile.gif

Sure no prob, but be prepared for them bringing you to those herbs stores & gem stores + telling you on the time limit of each visit..not to mention blatant agent tips by end of the trip.

haha..BTW, I'm 100% banana..Dun worry-lah..Taiwan having proper English signages everywhere

So long you can speak Hokkien & mandarin you're OK dy..

Ok thanks, maybe i do some more research and then consider for a free n easy for my taiwan trip smile.gif

I don't think its closed yet. I still see the chinese new year promotion for the doraemon theme at their official website.

I know that 2010 will be the last year Doraemon theme decorative will be put on display at Window On China. That is the main reason my gf wanna go Taiwan : )

Taoyuen area is near airport. Probably you want to consider stay overnite at Tauyuen b4 going to Taipei..furthermore when I was there last year, Taoyuen airport was having  free 1/2 day tour surrounding that area & include abit of Taipei if I'm not mistaken...good for those staying overnite there to grab the free tour...only 2 sessions..Morning & afternoon.

If u stay in Taipei, no point going back to Tauyuen airport to get the free tour......probably this tour also include the doraemon place? Well I'm not sure..not interested in this activity also haha

@Walauyeh - can't help you on that me dunno who is that guy...Banana here.

Thanks Stimix. smile.gif

They did accept RM but the rate is very very low compare to Msia.
As per advice on the first page, CHANGE to USD in Msia and then CHANGE USD to NT, u definately wil earn more.
One thing to make sure is the USD note u change shud be year 2005  onward note ELSE u will be charge additional fees.

"Window On China" got 2 interesting shows; Taiwanese Folk Art Theater Face Changing 09:30/11:00/13:40 and European Castle Stage Funny Clowns 11:30/13:30
check out www.woc.com.tw.

Nothing really interesting there except the Doraemon park, the only one in the world i heard.
You can reach there by taking train to Chungli then transfer to Hsinchu Bus (directly across the road from Chungli Railway Station) to go directly to Window on China
or
By MRT: Taipei Main Station > Jingan ~14min then
TaiLien’s E-go (Taiwan United) Buses Fare: NT$120 (one-way) NT$236 (return) ~ 1hr"

Well I follow the first route but unfortunately the timetable does not fit the bus schedule so I take taxi frm the ChungLi station to there ~ NT500. Chungli a nice shopping town too, ask the taxi driver to bring u to eat the famous beef noodles in town, u won't regret it NT90/bowl
*
Thanks for the info cybersim2.

For those who wanna visit Window On China to see the Doraemon Theme Park, please do so within 2010 because the staff of WOC told me that after January 2011, it will be removed. notworthy.gif

Hi guys/gals, need some help here.

I m going to taiwan on 17th June till 25th June. (9 Days 7 Night)

My flight will reach Taoyuan airport around 10.30pm 17th June , few more hours it will be 18th June already.

Is there any nice hotel with good rate to stay at Taipei. I checked the GocityInn, its full sad.gif, if no choice i have to stay at Xi Men Ding. As i read online, Xi Men Ding night market is closed around 10.30pm, there won't be anything to eat or see when i reach there.
So i would really like to stay at hotel near the Taipei Main Station.

I want to go to Taoyuan Window On China themepark the next day when i reach Taipei. Wondering, how to manage all those hotel booking as i trip is
i got 7 days of travelling there.

Places i will be going is :
- Taipei Area (2~3 days)
- Taoyuan Window On China ( Spend 1 night at the theme park hotel there),
- Keelung area, Yehliu , Jinguashi, Jiufen ( Maybe spend 1 night at the jiufen inn or B&B , i saw the pics its very nice)

Now the big problem is; should i reserve 7 Night at Taipei / Xi Men Ding Hotel and travel to the other county of taiwan like Keelung

or

I keep switching hotel after few days..... I m afraid of the inconvenience of carrying luggage and other items if i visit other places and keep switching hotels.

Any nice suggestion from you guys/gals who faced this situation before.

For 7Days..U should reserve 1 day to Hualien Taroko.

Xi Meng Ding is not nite market. It's just yuppies shops wth some legal/illegal sellers on bicycle-carts beside & on the roads surrounding that area...More shops than those "Chow kwai"
*
Finally booked hotel smile.gif

For the Hualien , Taroko area , roughly how much is the transport fee and entrance?

Hi guys/gals, me again ahahaha.

Any1 here know the way to TaoYuan Window On China Theme Park?

I saw on some forum , there are 2 ways:

First Option: Board the MRT train to Jing-an MRT Station and transfer to the bus outside Jing-an MRT Station (last pick-up stop). The same bus departing Songshan Airport will stop at Jing-an MRT Station for pick-ups. Fare: NT$220 (return) Travel time: About 1 hr

Second Option: Board railway trains from Taipei to Jhongli (also spelled Chungli).

At the front of Jhongli Railway Station (中坜火车站), board Hsinchu buses direct to Window On China. Purchase bus ticket from the ticket machine placed outside the bus station office. Fare: NT$49 Travel time: About 50 mins. Bus frequency: Every 30 mins

I will be staying at Xi Men Ding area. Which way is cost efficient or convenient for me. Another thing confusion for me is the transport in taiwan.

They got TRA, MRT/TRTS , train, railway...... o_0 many different lines.

there are many hotel near the Taipei Main Station, like cityinn , he jia huan etc depend on your  demand, it is convenient when travel around taipei city and get a hotel near the train station.

(Keelung area, Yehliu) one area , (Jinguashi, Jiufen) another area , you wont have time to travel both in same day, only can choose one of it.

if choose (Keelung area, Yehliu) , can go 渔人码头also, nearby, can travel back taipei city for accomodation by 捷运

if choose (Jinguashi, Jiufen) , better get a 民宿 in jiufen, cheap & nice ^^

1 day to Hualien Taroko ? just the transportation would waste you half day to go there . . . . . better get at lease 2 days or 3days if you want a full trip to there. Nice place, highly advisable to choose this place. accommodation cheap also.
*
Hi make87, i have taken your suggestion into consideration.

I have booked 1 night 民宿 stay at Jiufen, i wanna see the wonderful night view there.

So 1 day is for Jinguashi (morning - afternoon) + Jiufen ( Afternoon - overnight).

The next morning, i want to go to Keelung - Yehliu area and Danshui 渔人码头 , is Jiufen nearby those area after i have stayed a night at Jiufen?

Tarako no need entrance fee one.

The only expense (excluding food and shopping, if any) is your tour which is either those day tour group by bus (approx NT700 to NT750/pax) or your hired cab, which can range from NT2,200 to NT3,500 depending on where you found the driver/places you want to go.

I stayed all days in Taipei and no problem with that coz travelling in Taiwan is so convenient.  I lazy to pack and unpack coz got old folks and toddler in my group of 6.  The express train from Taipei to Hualien is NTD794 return for adult when I went in early April 2010.
*
Taroko gorge is a nice place, but it kind of eats up a lot of time and money alone for visiting there. i m still considering, low on budget x_x

Wanna update some info here:

I just redempted some nice item at Wisma Goldhill, Jln Raja Chulan.

For people travelling to Taiwan within June , they have a Promotion, they gave either :

Easy Card NT50

or

Theme Park Entrance Ticket for all the theme park in Taiwan ( Yes, Including Window On China, for Doraemon)<--- more worth than the easy card.

The Window On China Theme Park showcasing doraemon stuff will last till January 2011, so better go there to see it within this year.

how to get the theme park ennterence ticket?

need to go over there in person?

wat document to prepare?
*
Go to Wisma Gold Hill, Jln Raja Chulan. (Opposite Affin Building And Beside Public Bank Building). I think its Level 25 if i m not mistaken hehehe

You just need to give 1 copy of your itinerary, your flight ticket to proof you are going to Taiwan in the future date (Your copy is non-returnable).

For June Promotion, either you redempt : EasyCard(MRT Card) with value of NT50 (Around Rm5 only)
or
All Theme Park Ticket ( 1 admission only for any of the theme park in Taiwan) Worth more than NT490 for Window On China ( RM49).

Also, there are around 15 catalouge and leaflet there, please take it and read it, there are some in english. Most of it will show you how to get around famous destination like : Yehliu, Danshui, Huilien, Taroko, Jiufen, Jianguashi, Shifen and all the county of taiwan. Very very very valuable guidebook and leaflet.

I dont think Taiwan is a Shopping heaven...All the thing at Taiwan can easily find at KL... and if u see...most of Taiwanese wearing street fashion..not the branded one...

The New York sale also not very interesting...btw, if you are ladies...everywhere is Shopping Heaven aight.....lol
surprisingly, Cheap souvenir  like key chain, cheap T shirt are really difficult to find at Taiwan. The cheapest normal quality T shirt is NT 290 (usually can buy at rm 10-20) ...and all the souvenir are SAME if you go to Taiwan, HK, Vietnam...etc...all made from china...

Added on June 14, 2010, 11:17 pmfor city tour, you can travel easily travel by Metro (MRT)....at MRT Station, you can grab...a book let,it describes in details..
all the tourist attraction within MRT station area..very easy and effective!

along the Metro route you can choose a Danshui line, Xindian line,Nangang line, Wenhu line etc..

i suggest to apply 1 day unlimited pass, NT 180...
*
Might check out the New York Shopping complex since its closing down.

Going to taiwan this Thursday happy.gif heheh, excited.

Wanna burn lotsa TWD there
