Taiwan can go on self-tour. No visa needed. Last time, bought return air-ticket using EVA RM600 during low season. Taiwan very convenient and easy to visit if you know chinese. Public transportation is plenty too. Hotels - no need to book advance but if you want just go online too. Last time visited Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Penyu, 6 days trip. Very nice. Next time: Hualen, AliShan, etc.. Also.. the guys like to chew "penang" nuts (betel nut) and they buy it from and those "penang" sellers are very exotic looking. Incredible, you don't see this in Malaysia eventho we have an Island call Penang. This post has been edited by danmooncake: Jul 26 2009, 10:19 AM

Just got a call to some friends in Taiwan. All southern and eastern part of Taiwan now NO GO including the famous Alishan. Everything washed out pretty bad by the typhoon. Wait for a couple of months for them to repair the roads.

QUOTE(devillam @ Aug 22 2009, 05:41 PM) i booked the air asia ticket for rm 304...the cheapest 1 cn find is rm 214. where to find the info of ming shu ya? RM304 for return ticket? That's a very good deal. I book from Taipei to KL is approx TW11500 (RM1200) for travel in Sept 27. This is reverse for me because one of my office is in Taipei. I wish it is this cheap for Malaysian who wants to travel from Taipei back to Malaysia. What do you mean ming shu ya?? This post has been edited by danmooncake: Aug 23 2009, 10:27 AM

QUOTE(babysept @ Aug 23 2009, 09:48 PM) I intend to go Taiwan in mid Oct .. going alone .. haven been to Taiwan before .. Should I go for a tour package? Or to have it free and easy? I can speak Chinese fluently so language is not a problem for me. Free and easy is nice as Taiwan has excellent public transportation. All very competitive too. No need to go on tour package unless you wanted to those go along with aunty/uncle/ah mas that sit in bus. Taiwan now has the super high speed train. I find it very easy to travel from one city to another. http://www.thsrc.com.tw/en/

QUOTE(ahsia80 @ Aug 26 2009, 11:49 AM) How's the condition in Taiwan now?My trip there will be in Nov this year..so sad Ali-shan is badly affected...hope will be able to clear/rebuild the road soon... South side is bad (Tainan, Kaoshiung, TaiTung). Roads and bridges are damaged. Central (TaiChung), SunMoonLake and North side (Taipei) and East (HuaLien) are ok, no damage. QUOTE(slash @ Sep 3 2009, 10:18 PM) which areas are affected by the hurricane? I was thinking of tai zhong -> sunmoonlake (nantou) -> hualian. kaoshiung and tainan are no-go right? Confirm Taipei, YiLan, TaiChung and SunMoonLake (Nantou County) not damaged during the last typhoon. Only southern part like Tainan (minimal), Kaoshiung southern (some), and Taitung (bad). Amazingly Hualien City (eastern side) is also ok. Thank goodness that Puli is also ok (we don't want any harm to those pretty ladies here) This post has been edited by danmooncake: Sep 4 2009, 07:05 AM
