Well I suppose under powered/sluggish is depending on people's habit. If you're used to slow cars and driving that slow then yeah the 2.0 might be good enough already. There surely is a very noticeable difference between the 2.0 and 2.5ltr versions. Same case with comparing 2.0 vs 2.5 ltr d-segment sedans. Note also the average FC might be worse in the 2.0 as it's an under powered engine forced to push such a heavy car. IMHO if you just want to settle with 2.0 NA engines, then better just buy smaller cheaper SUV like Subaru XV or something.

The SUV I'm getting is more on spacious and family car. That's why I'm looking at mid size SUV as mini SUV like HRV, Subaru SV, and even Toyota upcoming CHR will not cater much for my needs. My brother in law is driving Innova 2.0 right now with 5 people in the seat. But I do not see so much issue underpower, and his FC is quite fine. His driving style is quite fine as well.
Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. It's impossible for Mazda to have 2017 empty without any new released. Or else they will be out of market easily. I'm hoping it can arrive around Q3 2017. The timing will be just right. Extra Gadgets are nice, but you know. Tech keeps involving, nobody use USB2.0 already. Even they implemented USB3.0. 10 years down the road, USB might be even obselete. So it was just like a...... Gimmick.

But the best things of the 2017 version I saw is the improvement of the quietness during driving. They claim it was 20km/h slower in getting the noise comparing with 2016. This is something I'm looking forward, as well as the Diesel version, but I worried Malaysia Diesel is a bit.... ahem.... might spoil the car. So we will see how it goes.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the feedback. I think I will wait for the CX-5 2017 version released then I will only sell my Proton Saga FL. But this weekend I will still go for test drive at Mazda, Nissan, & Toyota. Hoping I can concrete my current decision.

For diesel , you won't know until you try it out the difference it makes when driving .

Yeah 2.0 the car still move bla bla but the diesel does it a lot more relaxed , if you do a lot of long drives , you will find at the end of the trip a lot less tired

And the car feels a lot smaller because there's enough torque to zip in and out

As long you use euro5 diesel , won't have any problems but Mazda did test already with euro2 for over 3 years with a company car Mazda 6 , no issues and that's why they pushed ahead with diesel models

Well like I said that means you and your brother are just used to driving slow in under powered heavy cars. If like me, even a 2.5 ltr d-segment sedan with more than 200hp now feels slow already! Few days ago I drove my friend's 2.0 Lancer GT also felt very sluggish, no oomph whatsoever. I cannot imagine if driving such big SUV with also similar power to the Lancer GT but much heavier body would feel like, I'd probably fall asleep in it!  Same like driving my wife's 1.6ltr Livina. Innova FC is usually not good btw. Never mind, just test drive all versions first. If you're still fine with the sluggish 2.0 then just go ahead.
Yup diesel surely will have better pick up and feel more powerful due to fatter torque at low rpm but will soon run out of breath as it cannot rev high, but that's fine for SUV or pick up truck type of car. At least still much better than the puny 2.0 NA. Such 2.0 NA engines only suitable for C segment cars.
