With the new strict enforcement of AA with their carry on baggage, just wondering how do you guys normally carry your camera gears when on travel? Especially professional photographers who carry few lenses, bodies and batteries, which easily exceed the 7kg restriction.

Was suggested to load some to waist pouch with a winter coat over your body with it seems not too practical when traveling to warmer countries.


For myself, what I did in the past was to load most of my lenses into my camera backpack, and the remaining lenses + accessories into my f-stop icu, which will then either go into my cabin bag or check baggage if I am carrying a big luggage with extra protection using my clothes.

How about you guys? Would like to see is there any other option to carry my gears.

i don't think they weigh the camera if it's on your neck 🤔

Yea, I don't think so too for AA. But it all depends on how strict is their enforcement. I have friend who was asked to pay for euro 50 dollar penalty fee for carrying a film camera on her neck when traveling with UK budget airline since her cabin bag is just right meeting their requirement.

just buy extra baggage allowance.

I have the same predicament. While my camera bag size is just about there, the weight would be a problem. My bag when empty is already 3.7kg.

Uhh how many camera stuffs do you bring for travel? Usually my backpack fits my DSLR with 3 lenses, spare battery, accessories/filters, laptop, portable audio gear and any misc. e.g jacket.
And then I'll have a separate carry on luggage with my clothes and cables, charger etc.

yea, that's the worst case scenario to have camera gears in check-in baggage.

Bring my dslr, 5 lenses, spare batteries, lots of filter, flash, laptop and misc. I am going for 6-9 months so I want to get all my gears with me.. But with the new restriction, I can only have 1 dslr, 2 lenses, batteries and laptop with me on board.

That's a long travel. Keep your remaining lenses in your carry on luggage?

Can only check-in the remaining now since will be weighing more than 7kg. Unless AA has some other option, which I highly doubt so. I have just written a feedback to them regarding revising their carry-on restriction since travelers now can easily carry more than 7kg with all the gadgets. Option of buying add-on for carry-on baggage will be a very good alternative

Remember you are not supposed to check-in batteries. These must be in your carry ons
